Instead of staring after her, Molev looked at me with a very odd expression on his face.

“You okay?”I asked.“You look a little shell-shocked.”

“Explain.”

“I meant you look a little stunned by what just happened.”

“I am.No female has openly shown her body to me like that.Until now.”

I gave him a small smile.“We lost four of our team in less than two days.Everyone has different ways of processing their grief and the fear that they’ll be next.I think sex—feeling something good—is Roni’s way of coping with the bad.She wasn’t trying to offend you.”

“I wasn’t offended.”

I was about to tell him Roni would be glad to know that when he stepped closer to me.

“Are you grieving?Did you care for any of those males?”

The intensity of the question caught me off guard, and I looked down at the hoodie I held while trying to decide how honest I should be with him.

“After three weeks together, they should feel like my family. But I’ve worked really hard not to let that happen.”

“Why?”

“When we set out with forty-four people, we all understood we would die. Most of us, including myself, only hoped that someone would live long enough to see our task through.”

I met his intense gaze.

“What task?”

“Ultimately, to find a way to stop the infection from spreading. The people in command thought our best chance of that was making contact with your kind.”I handed him the hoodie.“Go shower. We can talk more once you're clean.”

Instead of taking the clothing, he glanced at his bloody hands.

“Right,” I said.“I’ll hang onto this until you’re done.”

He disappeared into the bathroom, and while I waited, what I’d said replayed in my head.He probably thought I was cold and heartless like the rest of the crew had believed in the beginning.Maybe I should have dialed back my honesty a little when explaining I wasn’t grieving.Yet, I hadn’t wanted him to think I was a broken mess he couldn’t count on.Anyone like that was already dead. The few of us who were left were here because we knew how to keep it together. For the most part.

I tipped my head back against the wall and let myself relax for a minute.Exhaustion dragged at me.The balance between getting enough sleep to function effectively while still maintaining a rotation was tricky. We’d all done a decent job of saying when we’d reached a wall, and no one had died due to sleep deprivation-related mistakes.Yet.Which was probably why Patrick hadn’t protested when I’d said I planned to shower and sleep.

When the shower turned off, I straightened and tried not to yawn. The door opened.Steam billowed out around a barely covered Molev.

Water dripped down the impressive expanse of his shoulders, rolling down his scarred pectorals to skip and jump down his insanely defined abs.The ridge of the towel at his waist ate the drops I’d been following.

In a different life, it might have been a mouthwatering view. Then again, I might have screamed and run for my life because of the skin, ears, and eyes.It was hard to say.

I looked down at his legs.He dripped water from the knees down too.But it was clear water.None of the bites were still bleeding.

“Um, I only found a top.Do you need pants too?”I asked as I stared at his bare feet.

“No.I will clean mine once the blood dries,” he said.

My gaze shifted to the bundle of leather he held.

“Okay.Grab any bed.No one will care if you sleep in the buff—I mean, naked.”

He grunted and stepped out of the way so I could have my turn at the shower.

Five minutes later, I emerged clean and wrapped in a towel.Roni was in the hall. She wore a white t-shirt that kissed her lower butt cheeks and a pair of men’s white briefs. She handed the same items to me.
