“I almost forgot you have a fiancé. It might take me a while to get used to it,” Mei said as she followed me out of the café.

“It might take you a trip to a private island to get used to the idea,” I said.

“A free vacation might indeed be the answer.” She laughed.

“Are you already done?” Gabriel asked as he ended his call and approached us.

“My history teacher, Mr. Iglesias, wants to talk to me,” I said.

“Well, let’s not keep him waiting,” Gabriel said. “It was nice meeting you, Mei. I hope to see you at the wedding.”

I hugged Mei, and we agreed to meet soon to go dress shopping. Then we went toward Mr. Iglesias's office in the nearby building. Gabriel said he’d wait outside and make a few calls. I entered the well-known building and knocked on Mr. Iglesias’s door. He gave me permission to enter.

“Hello, Mr. Iglesias. You wanted to see me?” I asked.

“Yes, Miss Costin. Come in. Take a seat,” he said as he put a few files to the side. “I heard about your trip to Romania. How was it?”

“I had a wonderful experience. I visited Bran castle and the palace at Târgovi?te.”

“I always tell my students that history must be learned not only from books. Being present where our ancestors once lived can define one’s life.”

“True. But what did you want to talk to me about, Mr. Iglesias?” I asked, still confused about his intentions.

“Please call me Rafael. I’m not your teacher anymore.”

“Okay, Rafael it is,” I said as he smiled joyfully. “Was there something you wished to ask?”

“I’ll cut to the chase. The man you came here with. We would like to find out more information about him.”

“We? Who’s we?” This all was becoming increasingly alarming.

“Hm, you are quite observant, Miss Costin. I represent a governmental department that deals with abnormal occurrences.”

“What abnormal occurrences?”

“Don’t be coy, Miss Costin. Just your presence next to that man puts you in a position of danger.”

“What do you mean? I truly don’t understand.” Was he one of the people who were after his blood?

“It is hard to believe you do not know, but I will meet you halfway and open some of my cards. The man you were seen with today is known as the most notorious antique dealer on the black market. Everything he sells has been stolen or missing for tens to hundreds of years. The fact that he has access to such priceless pieces of art makes us conclude he has an international outreach in illegal art trading.”

I might’ve been wrong to compare my experience to a billionaire romance since it slowly started to resemble a mafia underworld thriller.

Chapter 16

"As much as I find your assumptions interesting, I doubt Gabriel would ever do something illegal,” I said. “I cannot find any reasoning for Gabriel to resort to black market trading when he is beyond rich.”

“We believe it is more than black market trading. There are potential supernatural aspects to this situation, Miss Costin. I hope you realize Mr. Stoica is not your regular billionaire.”

“I haven’t met many billionaires to be able to give you a valid comparison, but one thing I am sure of. Gabriel would never do anything illegal since he simply doesn’t need it and it’s not in his character to do so. I rather believe you want something from him and are using me to get access to him,” I said and stood.

“I see he has been telling you stories,” he said.

“What if the one telling stories is you, Mr. Iglesias?”

“Only time will tell,” he said.

“Indeed, one thing you and I do have in common is time. Good day, Mr. Iglesias,” I said and went for the door.
