I chuckled as I slid into a seat, leaving an open one on each side of me so Cadence could choose where she wanted to sit. She hesitated a moment before taking the chair in the middle, her cheeks flushed pink, though a smile played around her lips. I nodded to the dealer, and was surprised when Cadence signaled she wanted dealt in as well.

“If you’re betting on me as the prize, what do I get when I beat you both?”

Madame laughed at the sass, though she flashed me a look over Cadence’s head. She didn’t need to say anything, I knew she could smell the change, and the curiosity in her gaze was obvious.

So was the calculation.

I gave a little shrug and tipped my head toward Cadence. She seemed to understand, turning her attention back to the game.

“So, what are we playing?”

Cadence looked from me to Madame, and I could only shake my head. Claiming she was going to beat us without even knowing what game had been dealt was a dead giveaway that she didn’t have a clue, or a chance.

The night passed, and before I knew it, Cadence was yawning as she laid her cards on the table after more than a dozen hands. She’d picked up the rules fairly quickly and had played well, but she certainly hadn’t won by any means.

Madame noticed Cadence’s exhaustion as well, folding her cards and signaling she was done.

“Looks like it’s time to call it a night. We’ll have to play again sometime. Maybe when you’re not quite so tempting, I can invite the pair of you over for dinner and a game.”

Cadence blinked up at her as Madame stood. Reaching out, Madame stroked her manicured fingers along Cadence’s cheek before turning away. The barest hint of instincts stirred in me when she touched Cadence, but she was walking away before I could suppress it and think of a response.

“Did I do something wrong?”

Those big, chocolate eyes looked up at me as I rose, worry rounding them as she chewed on the corner of her lip. I took her hand and pulled her up, circling an arm around her waist as I brushed her hair behind her shoulder.

“No, my Blossom. You did nothing wrong.”

Her brows were still crinkled, so I put my fingers beneath her chin, using my thumb to pull her lip from between her teeth before leaning down to soothe it with my tongue as I sucked it into my mouth instead.

Cadence moaned and leaned into me, the scent that had been tormenting me all night growing thicker. Groaning, I pulled away before things went too far and I lost control.

“Time to go get some rest, omega.”

Her little pout made me smirk, but she came willingly when I walked her to her car and held the door open for her once again.

“Straight home and to bed.”

She huffed a laugh as she slid behind the wheel of her old Toyota, cocking a brow at me.

“Yes, Daddy.”

A growl escaped before I could swallow it, and I was pretty sure I could pound my cock right through the door of the car with how hard I was. Closing it before I yanked her back out to bend her over the hood, I took a step away and waited for her to crank the car, her eyes locked on mine the whole time.

Maybe we’d have to try something else new and see if she’d unlocked a new kink for me, but not until she’d recovered.

I pressed my fingers to my lips, blowing her a kiss as she pulled out into the road to drive home. I’d be following along behind her before she made it two blocks.

Chapter Seven

Cadence

“Mother wants us to come over for dinner tomorrow.”

I tried not to stiffen, but I knew my spike of anxiety was obvious to Leo. No matter how hard I tried to hide things, he could read me better than I could myself half the time.

“Father will be out of town for a meeting, so it’ll just be her and Eleni. I usually keep them company whenever they’re home without him.”

I scratched my nails through the rough hair on his chest, some of the tension along my spine easing. Aelia and Eleni had both seemed wonderful when I met them, but the memory of what happened while I was there last still made me uncomfortable.
