“His heart, babe. Money can’t buy you Beckett’s love.” I hear the sadness in her tone and guilt gnaws at me.

“I’m sorry, Cody, I didn’t mean to—”

She holds her hand up cutting me off. “It’s fine. I’m happy for you, Val. You deserve your happy ending. I guess a part of me is green with envy that I won’t ever get that with Corvin.” I rush over to her and wrap her in a hug. She sniffles and I feel like a right asshole.

“I’m so sorry. I’ve been so focused on myself and haven’t even thought to check in on you.” I lead her into the games room where Dawson is currently watchingRaya and the Last Dragonon the projector screen. We sit on the couches in the far corner so our conversation won’t disrupt Dawson’s movie. I sit cross-legged, facing her and clasp her hands in mine. “How are you?”

A whoosh of air escapes her. “Honestly, with everything that has been going on with you it’s been good at keeping me distracted from the ache in my chest.” Her eyes fill with tears. “I love him,” she mumbles as the first tear falls.

“Cody, I am so so so sorry, I wish I could knock some sense into him so he could see how freaking amazing you are.” She smiles but it doesn’t reach her eyes. “Is there anything I can do to help?”

“Actually, there is something you could do for me.”

“Name it.”

“My little sister is flying in to see me and check out the campus. She wants to apply here and I promised her a girl’s night out.”

“I don’t know if I should—”

“Please, the guys can come as well if you want, but they have to stay on the other side of the club.” The thought of having a night out with Beckett and our friends sounds so appealing.

“I don’t have anyone to watch Dawson.”

“Leave that to me.” I look at her skeptically. “I got you, Val. Please, I need this and you will love my little sister.”

“If Beck is okay with it then I’m in,” I say excitedly.

Cody squeals. “Perfect, I need you with me because my sister wants to murder Corvin for hurting me, so I need to keep her away from him at all costs—” The sound of glass shattering has us both screaming in fright. I leap off the couch to check on Dawson who is pale and clearly scared.

“Stay with him!” I call out to Cody as I make my back into the kitchen. I made it two steps before something smacks me over the back of the head and everything goes black. My last thought is praying that Cody keeps my son safe.

Strolling through campus doesn’t feel the same anymore, now that I have responsibilities. I’m a dad and need to make sure that I set a good example for my son. I want Dawson to be proud of me. Amassing an empire isn’t enough, I want to finish school and show him that you can do both. Guys call out to us, trying to garner a flicker of our attention that they’ll never get. Girls throw themselves at us or bat their lashes and push their tits out as the five of us walk past. There is only one of us that is free to mingle and even Corvin doesn’t seem interested. We come to a stop the moment Lana-fucking-Samuels blocks our path. I glare down at the manipulative bitch. She’s flanked by the bane of Darius’s existence, Chelsea and on the other side is Saint’s stage-five clinger, Sandra.

“Lana, what an unpleasant surprise,” Crue snarls. Lana shoots him a filthy look before turning her attention back to Corvin.

“Hey, Corv,” she singsongs.

“What do you want, Lana?” Corvin bites back.

“Rude,” Chelsea snickers.

“Don’t you have someone else to throw yourself at Courtney?” Darius grits out earning a glare from her.

“It’s Chelsea!”

“Don’t give a fuck.” The five of us say in unison, then break out into a fit of laughter. We attempt to push past the trio but Lana cuts in front of Corvin and holds him in place with a hand to his chest.

“Can we talk?” Darius, Saint, Crue and me all shoot him a look telling him not to fall for her shit again.

“Talk about what, Lana? Why all of a sudden are you pouring it on thick again?” He’s right, Lana hasn’t pushed getting back together with Corv for a while now, what changed?

“Baby, I miss you—” Lana is cut off before she can finish speaking when Leah cuts in front of her brother, smacking Lana’s hand away from him.

“Don’t touch my brother and stay the fuck away from him.” Leah sounds like a right badass. Katie stands beside her friend, staring the other two bitches down. I cut a look to Darius to see him staring at his girl in wonder.

“Who the hell are you?” Lana screeches.
