This is my chance.

“Where did that come from?” Cillian screams.

My ears are ringing, but I have to move.

“Now,” I mouth to Oliver, who is looking straight at me.

He races to the side of the bar.

Cillian is still standing in the middle of the floor, disorientated. His men must have taken cover when the grenade blew. I don’t wait. I go straight toward him. Focused on Oliver, Cillian hasn’t noticed my approach. My hand shakes when I remove the nine millimeter from behind my back.

This is the opportunity we’ve all been waiting for.

I don’t hesitate when I pull the trigger.

Cillian’s body goes limp before falling to the floor.

“Ava, run,” Oliver screams.

I bolt for him just in time. Bullets fly overhead.

Oliver pulls me into his side. “What the fuck are you doing?”

“Whatever it takes to protect my family.”

“You’re fucking crazy.” He pulls me into a hug, weakening the anger in his voice. “Thank you.”

“I didn’t do anything you wouldn’t have done.”

“Give me the M4.”

I yank the sling over my head and pass it to him.

“Is Cillian dead?” I ask him.

“I’m pretty sure it was a headshot.” His smile is proud.

“Did you see how many men are left?”

Bullets zoom over our heads as I reply, “I don’t know. But I need you to go low, and I’ll go high. Make sure no one comes from behind us.” Oliver answers.

“Okay.” I take a moment to scan him. He has dried blood on his face, and his right eye is swollen shut, but he’s alive, which is all that matters.

“Ready?” he asks.

“Yes.”

With a grin, he stands and starts shooting. Eros is filled with the overwhelming noise of gunfire.

Fewer bullets fly in our direction as times slip by.

It doesn’t take long before they stop altogether.

“It’s clear,” Oliver tells me.

“Should we be worried that no one from the outside has come in?” I ask, standing.

“Yes…” Oliver starts, but he’s interrupted.
