I try calling out on the house phone, but the dial tone is dead. Smart, I would’ve done the same.

My head snaps to the side when a loud bang comes from the passage. I raise my gun, ready to kill whoever comes through.

“Ceannard, don’t shoot. It’s me,” Angus opens the door.

“What are you doing here? Where’s Oliver?”

“He’s at Eros.”

“How bad is it?” I ask, scanning the monitors.

“They’re attacking everywhere,” Angus replies, stating the obvious.

“Fuck.” I run my fingers through my hair, the shake in my hand is undeniable.

Angus stops in front of my desk. “Where are Ava and the kids?”

“They made it out.” I rub my forehead. “Tell me you have a plan.”

“I do.” He stares at me like it’s not an ideal plan, but I’m so desperate that I’ll take anything I can get.

“What is it?”

“We can’t go out the front gate. We have to make it to the guardhouse. There’s an escape route.”

“I’m assuming that isn’t the whole plan.” I check the monitors again. They’re closing in.

“We need them to follow us. I rigged the guardhouse. We can eliminate a lot of them at once.”

“You want me to be bait?” I ask, understanding his plan but still shocked by it.

“Something like that.”

“How do you want to do this? They have the front, and in two minutes, we’ll have men barging through my office door.” The monitor shows several men closing in.

“We will let them see us come out of the passage and run like hell.”

I glance at my cell. When I notice there’s still no service, I say, “Let’s move.”

We are silent. In less than sixty seconds, a herd of men trying to kill me appear at the doorway. My men are either dead or impaired. We are severely outnumbered.

“When we reach the guardhouse, go right. Go straight to the back of the building. There’s an SUV parked there. The keys are on the front tires. Wait thirty seconds. If I’m not there by then, leave.”

“Last I checked, I’m the one who gives the orders,” I bark at Angus.

“My job is to keep you alive.”

“My job as your boss and Clan brother is to fight beside you. We’re both getting out of here. Now shut the fuck up and move,” I order.

“Aye.”

When he opens the door, I smell nothing but blood and carnage.

Someone has set a fire somewhere.

I tap Angus on the shoulder. “Move.”

Bullets fly in our direction. If we want to make it to the SUV, we have to run. The sound of men screaming and gunshots follow us.
