“They wanted to meet you tonight, but I was able to give you an extra day before the Spanish Inquisition,” I tell her.

“Are they that bad?” Rosalie asks, looking nervous.

I chuckle. “My mother is excited that I have found someone. She has been dreaming about planning this wedding for years. My father on the other hand, he is focused on what is best for his nation and if he hurts your feelings in the process so be it,” I explain to her honestly. I need her to be forewarned that it’s not her, it’s him. But I can see the worry on her face. “It’s going to be okay,” I reassure her. “They are happy that I have finally chosen someone. That I’m going to fulfill their wishes of a marriage and family,” I explain. My eyes look up at Greyson. He gives me a sad smile. I wish I was here with just him, choosing our engagement rings together.

Rosalie looks between Greyson and me. “I promise I’ll be the best wife you’ve ever dreamed of,” she says to me before her eyes land on Greyson, letting us read between the lines.

My heart constricts over hearing her words. Never ever did I dream that Greyson and I could have a chance of being together, forever, while fulfilling my royal duties. I don’t know how I can ever repay Rosalie for this gift she is bestowing on us.

“Now that you’ve chosen the ring, I’d like to talk about what happens next. I want to assure you, Skylar, that Iwilltake good care of your sister.”

“You have so far, and it’s only been one day. And you’re dealing with me tagging alone like the third wheel,” Skylar says with a chuckle.

“You’re family now. I promise I will keep you safe.”

“After what we have been through that notion may take us some time to get used to, but I believe you,” Skylar tells me.

“If I’m honest, I’ve always wanted a sister, and now it looks like I’m getting two.”

“You’re a real charmer.” Skylar chuckles. “Seeing as we are all family now …” She looks around the room, her eyes bouncing from each of us. “… I think we need to be honest and put everything out on the table.”

I still at her comment before my eyes lift to where Greyson’s standing, and I can tell he is as surprised as I am.

“Sky,” Rosalie hisses at her older sister.

“It’s fine. This is what this meeting is, isn’t it? For putting everything on the table?” Skylar asks me.

I nod. “Please, ask me anything.”

“I want to say that I am one hundred and ten percent in support of this union,” Skylar starts before looking over at her sister, then to me.

“But there are rumors swirling around about you and your guard and I’m worried that something may come out and embarrass my sister,” Skylar states.

“Sky!” Rosalie gasps as she looks genuinely upset with her sister. “This is none of your damn business,” she says before turning to me. “You don’t owe her an explanation,” Rosalie tells me, and I can see it written on her face, she will fight tooth and nail not to expose our secret. My fierce little one.

I look over at where Greyson is standing and silently ask him if we should let her sister know the truth about the rumors.

“I think your sister’s question is a fair one, especially as you are now wearing my ring on your finger,” I tell her. Rosalie’s forehead crumples at my answer. “It’s not a secret amongst my family that I’m already in love with someone else,” I explain to her.

Skylar gasps at my admission, then looks over at her sister and I can see she is angry over my comments.

“You see, Skylar, Greyson is not only my guard, he’s also my best friend and my lover.”

Skylar’s bright blue eyes widen at my confession, she turns to her sister again for confirmation. Rosalie nods as an answer.

“If I want to fulfill my obligation to the crown, then I needed to find a wife to produce an heir and make my family and country happy. Thanks to biology I can’t produce an heir with Greyson.”

Skylar is still sitting there in disbelief as she asks her sister a question, “And you’re okay with this?”

“Yes, I am. They deserve to be happy, and I’m honored that they have chosen me to be the one to help keep them together.”

“I saw the way you looked at my sister at our palace, you like her. I also noticed the way your guard looked at her too?” Skylar adds.

“Greyson and I are bisexual,” I explain.

“Oh,” Skylar gasps. “What does that mean for my sister?”

“It means nothing, Sky. The boys are together. The prince and I are together in ceremony only until we need to produce an heir,” Rosalie explains.
