“And how are you going to do that?” Skylar asks.

“The old-fashioned way, between the sheets,” I answer with a chuckle.

Skylar’s eyes narrow on my joke, not appreciating it.

“We haven’t had a chance to talk with Rosalie yet, about the logistics of our relationship,” I tell her.

“Does this arrangement mean while you two are together that she can’t sleep with other people?” she asks.

“Like I said, Sky, we have much to talk about.”

“I love my sister and I’m looking out for her best interests,” Skylar explains.

“Sky, I wouldn’t have said yes if I wasn’t sure,” Rosalie tries to reassure her.

“I don’t doubt your loyalty, Rose, but let’s be honest, you wouldn’t want to be the third wheel in a marriage if we didn’t need the wedding to help us.”

Skylar has a point there and I’ll take her concerns onboard.

“I would rather be a third wheel, than married off to some depraved bastard friend of Valerius,” Rosalie adds.

“Like I will be?” Skylar bites.

“No, I will never let that happen. That’s why I’m marrying the prince, to make sure that you will get to marry for love not for some political strategy,” Rosalie tells her sister.

“You think you’re going to be able to stop Valerius’s master plan?” Skylar asks her sister.

“Skylar, you will never have to fear Valerius ever again, I can promise you that.”

Skylar looks over at me and her brows pinch together. “Do not underestimate him, Your Highness. He hasn’t gotten this far for nothing.”

I nod in understanding, she’s right. I shouldn’t assume because of who I am that I can go up against the King of the Underworld.

“While you are under my roof, Skylar, you are safe, I can promise you that,” I tell her. She gives me a nod. “We have a lot of figuring out to do, but I promise we will do the right thing by your sister,” I tell her, hoping to alleviate any concerns she may still have.

“Rosalie is strong-willed. She would never have accepted your offer if she didn’t think it was right for her,” Skylar states, looking over at her sister, she gives her a small smile. “My next question is, how are you going to save our family’s ass right now? It may take months for your man to find some loophole in our constitution, but we are in dire straits right now, especially with this fire. The Carandini family want to pay for the repairs, which means Magnolia is going to be even more indebted to them than she already is. If they pay for the renovations, then there is no way we can stop her wedding to Dante,” Skylar explains passionately.

“Sky,” Rosalie hisses at her sister.

“I’ve arranged for contractors to assess the damage on the tower to see how much and how long it will take to repair. I do not want you to be indebted to the Carandini family more than you already have been. I want you to be able to return to your home, Skylar, and not have to worry about when that family will call in a debt,” I tell them. “Rosalie explained briefly about your family history with the Carandinis. I promise I will not give that man any more power over you or your country.”

“Do you seriously think a man like Valerius is going to let someone else pick up the tab?” Skylar asks me.

“He won’t have a choice. I’ve already spoken to the treasury and started the transferring of the first part of the engagement money to your lawyer, Anthony. The first million was transferred an hour ago, that was for Rosalie accepting my hand in marriage. The next payment will be made tomorrow of four million, which is half of what I owe.”

Skylar looks at me, stunned over this news. “Do you think Valerius is going to take the money?” she asks her sister.

“I don’t know,” Rosalie answers with a worried look on her face.

“You think he’s not going to accept you paying back your father’s debts?” I ask them both.

They both shake their heads.

“Because he wants your sister to marry his son?”

“Yes,” Rosalie answers.

“If she isn’t the heir how will that work for him?”
