I reach over and cover Sailor’s small hand with mine. “I also told her that I had feelings for someone else.”

Sailor’s gaze snaps up in surprise and her lips part slightly. Lips I’m dying to kiss. The brief taste I had right before I fell into Black Widow oblivion doesn’t count. I want to kiss her thoroughly, like she’s never been kissed before. Until her knees buckle and she can barely stand.

“Really?” she manages to finally utter.

I take a deep breath and then leap. “You, Sailor.”

The moment the words leave my mouth, the doorbell rings.Dammit. Perfect timing,I think in annoyance.

“Food’s here,” she murmurs. Then she hops up, looking grateful for the interruption.

I lean back in my chair and roll my eyes. “Fuck.”

Well, that didn’t exactly go well.

When she returns with the food, a part of me feels like I should just let it go and not mention my feelings again. But it’s like ignoring an elephant in the room. I unwrap my burger and rethink my decision to get onion rings. Because before the night is over, I’m going to kiss my Sailor Moon.

When I push the food away, she looks over, concerned. “What’s wrong? Did they get your order wrong?”

“No, the food's fine.” I frown at her sesame seed bun with what looks like nothing in the middle. “What the hell is that?”

“I got the Unburger.”

“You got a cheeseburger minus the meat?”

She nods. “Yes, you big carnivore.”

I smile. “Only you, Sai,” I murmur softly. She looks so damn adorable and dainty eating her piece of cheese stuck between buns. “Can I ask you something?”

“Maybe,” she answers warily.

“Why did you and Ben break it off?”

Sailor swallows and takes a drink of water. “We weren’t a good match.”

“Why not?” I press.

“He just wasn’t…”

I lean forward. “Wasn’t what?” She hesitates, but I’m not letting her off the hook. “Wasn’t what, Sai?”

“He wasn’t you,” she finally says.

Her words fill me with a roaring desire to leap over the table and kiss her senseless, but I’m still feeling too weak. Satisfied by her answer, for now, I reach for my messy burger and take a huge, happy bite. I’m smiling and chewing at the same time and probably look like a damn lunatic.

“Well? You’re not going to say anything?”

I shrug a shoulder.

“Kane!”

I swallow my food, unable to stop grinning. “What, babe?”

A flush makes her cheeks turn a pretty pink. “Are we finally on the same page?” she asks carefully.

I crunch into an onion ring. “Yeah. I think so.”

She nods thoughtfully and bites into her grilled cheese. “So you’re still planning to take me out on that date?”
