“Let’s go.”

Once we entered the stairwell, she turned to me and reached in her jacket. Instead of handing me a gun, she took out her lipstick and coated my lips with the candy apple red color.

She leaned in close like she was kissing me. “There are cameras in here. I can’t arm you here so stay close. The elevators are not malfunctioning. They want us here. We should be prepared for anything.”

“You’re such a tease. Let’s go before I get our private party started right here.” I smacked her ass and licked my lips.

Irma disappeared around the corner to the nineteenth floor when a sweaty hand clamp tight around my mouth cutting off my scream. I struggled and kicked the wall a few times before I was lifted off the floor and carried down several flights of stairs.

Who is this?

I elbowed him and his hand fell from my mouth.

“Let me go. Help!”

Wham.

Pain radiated through my skull, and I pretended to go limp in his arms. My window of escaping this man would be narrow. My limbs weren’t constrained and we were still in the hotel stairwell. I had to act helpless before he left the hotel or took me to a room.

Irma, please notice my kicks on the wall. You must know that I’m not behind you anymore unless you’re in on this too. Was Mikhail’s people compromised?

“Enkelan, I’ve got her. Bring the car around.”

Besa strolled through the door and I studied Mikhail. I was certain he followed Victor's habits and hadn't disclosed that I was hearing impaired. There was something different about him. He looked tense and ready to spring into action. Normally, I wouldn’t go anywhere, let alone on a mission with strangers, but I knew Mikhail was like Viktor. They didn’t give their trust easily. They were very inquisitive, always making sure that people’s loyalty hadn’t shifted.

I eyed the black leather bag nestled at his feet. “Are you good?”

He took out a cigar and lit it. “How much do you trust Anya?”

Careful. I won’t hesitate to kill you.

My face was expressionless, although I was livid.

Where was this coming from? Whether I trust her or not was not his concern.

I merely shrugged. “How much do you trust a female? Why do you ask?”

He sighed. “Irma just sent me an emergency text. She can’t find Anya. Her father doesn’t know the meaning of loyalty and she doesn’t either. We are outside of our territory, and in the enemy’s backyard. I’d hate to be betrayed by a pretty face and sorrowful eyes.”

Besa, might be testing me but he was dangerously close to getting himself killed. Felix was a piece of shit, but it didn’t mean Anya was heartless, like him. Besa was a grunt, a worker bee. He took orders from Mikhail. He wasn’t paid or tasked to ask questions.

Anya, you had better be with Irma.

“You’re worrying too much. Besides, she doesn’t know anything. Tell Irma not to let her out of her sight.”

He took out his phone and sent another text. My vision was perfect. I quickly read his screen before he sent the message to Irma. Besa had just redeemed himself. Unbeknownst to him, he just saved himself. He may live a bit longer.

Mikhail would’ve alerted me if she was missing. He might have been trying to locate her before I found out. I couldn’t shake the feeling that Anya had been planning something. I knew that she wouldn’t agree just to watch the cameras. We had just arrived. She hadn’t had time to plan her next move and she was a thinker.

Six black SUVs with tinted windows pulled up in front of the hotel. At least thirty Vietnamese men jumped out of the car.

“Damn, the Dragons are here. I’ll call the others. You might want to take cover.” I sent a text to Mikhail.
