“Yes, everything is fine. I’d prefer to celebrate at home.”
Finn gives me a knee-melting, sexy smile and snuggles into me. “I like the sound of that.” He places a kiss on the curve of my neck.
Before I get distracted by his magical mouth and forget to tell him my news, I push back. “Finn, I need to tell you something.”
I suspected that I might be pregnant when I threw up yesterday. Before heading to the cabin, I raced to the drugstore to buy a pregnancy test. I waited until this morning to take the test just in case something I ate might have made me sick. I decided not to tell Finn anything because I didn’t want to get his hopes up for nothing. We weren’t planning a family yet—I have school to finish—but I know he’ll be ecstatic. When nausea rolled in my stomach again as soon as I woke up this morning, while Finn still slept, I took the test.
“What is it?”
Now that I have his full attention, the words get stuck in my throat. How do you blurt out something so important? Should I have done something special like given him a baby onesie with “World’s Greatest Dad” printed on the front like I’ve seen people do online? Was telling him on a jetty dressed in pajamas and wrapped in a blanket the best way to do it?
Suddenly, my nerves evaporate like the morning mist on the lake. Here is the perfect place. The perfect time. Where we promised each other we’d make beautiful memories.
Finn cups my face. “Is everything okay?”
Smiling at the man I love, my heart swells with joy. “Everything is perfect. Finn, I’m pregnant.”
Finn’s eyes grow wide. His mouth drops open. “You’re pregnant?”
I nod. Happy tears clog my throat.
“We’re having a baby?” His voice drops to a whisper.
“Yes.”
Finn places his hands on my waist, picks me up, and spins me around, smiling at me with tears in his eyes. When he sets me back on my feet, he gives me a long, slow kiss. Pulling away, he gazes at me with so much love and affection, my heart skips a beat.
Placing a hand on my belly, he says, “You, me, and peanut…forever.”
Tears pour down my face. “Forever.”
