“Yeah, let’s all pretend this was just another day at the office,” Eva said irritatedly. “A plane blew up!”

“We didn’t get him,” I sighed.

“Are you sure it was him?”

“Again, a plane blew up and you guys almost died,” Eva snapped.

I ignored her and continued talking to Cash. “I want to say yes, but I really only saw him for a few seconds. I could have been wrong.”

“Did you ask Fox?”

“He’s too busy eating Funyuns.”

“Not to be an annoying woman here, but would you mind getting your naked ass off my husband’s bed?”

“Fiancé,” I corrected. “Sure. I’m getting out of here anyway.”

I pushed off the bed and gingerly made my way toward my bed. Duke was smirking at me as I hobbled along. He could go suck a lemon.

“See?” Cash snapped at Eva. “She’s going home.”

“She doesn’t have anyone to tell her to stay.”

“I’m the boss,” he argued.

I yanked the curtain to his bed closed, ignoring the stab in my side. I must have a bruised rib or two. I stopped in front of Duke, crossing my arms over my chest. “Are you going to take me home or am I going to walk?”

His chest shook as he laughed at me. “I’ll take you home if you can walk to the door and back without needing to stop for a break.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “Just to the door.”

“To the door and back. Otherwise, you can stay here the rest of the night with everyone else.”

I pursed my lips, irritated by his demands. Still, I turned and faced the hallway. It wasn’t that far to the door. Then again, the longer I stood here, the more I swayed on my feet. Even I knew it wasn’t wise to attempt the journey.

“I have another option for you.”

“Do tell. I’m dying to know what you think you should get.”

I swung my gaze back to him and hit him with something he wouldn’t expect. “I’ll stay at your place.”

“And why would I want that?” he asked suspiciously.

“You’ve been trying to get in my pants for years.”

He chuckled darkly. “Rae, as much as I want to know what it feels like to get you in my bed, I can guarantee that you’d pass out the minute you laid down.”

He had a point. I was in no mood or shape to have sex, even if my lady parts said otherwise. “I’ll give you three personal questions.”

“Five.”

“Three.”

“Four.”

“Two,” I countered.

“I guess you want to stay in the hospital,” he said, turning and walking away from me.
