If only she wasn’t obsessed with Thai food so much…

But I think I found my new kink—fawning over my girl and spoiling her.

I walk into my closet and get the small jewelry box from a drawer.

“The final touch,” I tell her when I emerge and see her already in her high heels.

The present is the Icon Cushion Cut Yellow Diamond pendant and earrings from Graff. I’m not an expert, but Cece drools over Graff’s diamond craftsmanship.

“Archer,” Kat whispers as I help her put them on.

“Come here.” I lead her to the full-length mirror in her closet and stand behind her, admiring the view.

“How much did it cost?” she asks.

“Does it matter?”

“I’m just curious.”

“Well, it was either that or a brand new car, but you can’t drive at Ayana.”

She whips around in my arms. “What?” She’s impressed—checkmark. “And it, what”—she carefully touches the necklace with her fingertips—“just sits around my neck?”

“Yeah, wild thing. It just sits there and enjoys the privilege. Until you get a pearl necklace.”

She swats me away with a grin.

Kat never asks for anything, and I want to spoil her endlessly. I have the money to impress her, but I want to do so much more—show her the world. I just had to know she’d choose me over the rest of the world. And she did, a few times, risking her life doing that.

“You look amazing,” I say.

“Someone said I look the best in my birthday suit.” She smiles. “In fact, most of Ayana knows that.”

We both laugh. We let go. This is the newus.

We walk out into the living room, and she pauses by the painting. “Now that I think about it, I match. Look!”

She strikes a pose against the gray wall, her dress a bright splash of red.

“Makes sense.” I nod.“Red is my favorite color.”

“I thought it was gray.”

“Nah, red.”

“Since when?”

“Since I met you.”

She laughs again happily. She loves compliments. And I love her laughter. Also, the color red. It’s the color of danger, but also seduction, and—as per my own philosophy—uniqueness. That’s Kat.

“Let’s walk,” she says as we leave Cliff Villa.

She looks around at Slate and the other guard, who follow us at a slight distance. “You think we can outrun them?”

See?

“Stop.” I shake my head with a smile.
