He doesn’t want to take any chances, not with how I’ve been acting lately. It’s been all about business between us, with silent dinners, detached stares, and an absence of interaction.

After nearly forcing myself out of bed, I make my way down the stairs, eager for a cup of coffee. Spotting Jaxon at the dining room table, I notice his cellphone pressed against his ear.

“Yes. That works,” he says, lifting his gaze to briefly meet mine. “I should be leaving within the next hour or so.”

Grabbing a mug from the cabinet, I turn to look at him once more, curious as to where he’s going.

“Not quite sure on that yet. I’ll keep you posted, Ron.”

With that, he ends the call.

“Morning,” I quietly speak up, initiating a conversation.

“Good morning.”

Sitting across from him at the table, I focus on the steam from my coffee. Fortunately, it’s still hot.

There’s an intimidating silence.

“Did you sleep well?” I ask.

“No.” His eyes turn to slits, and he appears distracted. “Pack an overnight bag.”

“I’m coming with you?”

“You are.”

“To where?”

“We’re leaving in an hour,” he dismissively says, before gracefully leaving the kitchen.

There’s an eerie silence between us, as we drive down winding roads, and it almost seems familiar.

Once we arrive to the secluded airport, I’m struck with uneasiness. We’ve been here before. My thoughts become a shambled mess as I allow my gaze to roam over the vast length of his private jet.

There’s a charge in the air as we sit quietly in our seats once we’re aboard. I can’t help but wonder where we’re going, where he is planning to take me. But most of all, I can’t help but wonder why he won’t speak a single word.

Jaxon continues to brush me off, even after our bumpy takeoff, completely ignoring my existence. It’s evident that there’s something on his mind, something he’s hiding, especially considering how he’s wearing jeans and a shirt, rather than his usual business attire.

It only seems to make me feel more anxious as the time passes by, after realizing how far we are traveling. Hour after hour, my head is left spinning, until I simply can’t take it anymore.

Reaching beside me, I lightly touch his arm.

He flinches, startled. His beautiful, blue orbs lock with mine. Finally, I can breathe again.

“This isn’t for business, is it?”

“No, Sasha,” he quietly replies. “It’s not.”

“Where are we going?” I ask.

Disregarding my question, Jaxon turns away.

And I don’t back down.

“Where are we going?” I repeat, trying my best to remain calm, although my voice comes out shaky.

He stays silent.
