“Thankfully, it was only for the last week or so,” I admit.

Holding up her hand so we all can see her ring, she squeals. “I’m getting married.”

We can barely contain our excitement as we fling our arms around one another in one long embrace.

When Jax starts into another cover by Ed Sheeran, Lanie grabs my hands. “Come on, I know you know this one.” We all must line-dance. Typically, I’m working, but tonight’s about my sister, so I put that thought aside and fall in line. With my sisters by my side, I let the music take over and move with the beat. This song is fast and moves me all around the floor.

As I turn and jump, now facing the stage to make my next moves in the dance, Jax captures my eyes. His eyes heat as they focus on my body swaying through the steps. God, he makes me feel sexy. I’m sure it has everything to do with the words in this song but somehow, it’s like he’s singing about me.

I know I must be imagining things, but I swear as he sings, he’s telling me exactly what he wants. He wants to be the guy kissing me, staying up all day and night, making him shiver with the things I’d do to him.

Hell, if he keeps looking at me like that, I just might let him.

When the dance makes me jump and face the next wall, I’m forced to break eye contact. Immediately, a sense of loss flows through me but somehow, I feel the heat of his eyes, as I move through the motions for the rest of the song.

If Jax has the capacity to light me on fire from just a simple look, God only knows what he’ll do to me between the sheets. Desire flows through me as I dance, and I can’t help but daydream of the possibilities.

After the song ends, Lizzy leads me back to the table. “Let’s get something to drink. I’m dying of thirst.”

Waving down a waitress, we quickly order a Coke and wait with Raven for our drinks. Lanie and Ryan return to their meal that’s now arrived, and my sisters and I watch Jax finish his performance.

They get up a few times to dance, but I remain at the table, capturing more footage of Jax. They give me shit for working all the time, but they also know what I have riding on this, so I know it’s mostly them just pestering me to have fun, too.

Ryan and Lanie eventually say their goodbyes and disappear to continue their night of celebration, while Raven and Lizzy wait to finally meet Jax in person. We listen as he stacks song after song of his own work into the set. With each song he writes, he just keeps getting better. Lizzy, Raven, and I grab some dinner for ourselves while we wait.

Before stuffing a fry into her mouth, Raven asks, “So… what are your plans after this? I’m sure the happy couple is celebrating—and I’d rather give them some space.”

Rolling her eyes, Lizzy shakes her head. “I’d rather not think about that—thank you very much. There’s a late movie with Bradley Cooper in it. Wanna see that before heading home?”

“I’m in,” Raven agrees, and they look to me.

“I… uh… think I’ll stick around here for a bit. Jax said he wanted to discuss something and with the festival coming up, I’d like to tackle what he needs sooner than later.”

“Oh, I’m sure you’ll tackle something… or rather someone,” Raven taunts. “I’ve seen the way that man’s watched youall night. I’m sure he’s got a lot totalkwith you about.”

Dreamily, Lizzy sighs. “It’s like Lanie all over again, isn’t it?”

Raven looks to Lizzy and nods. “But you know Sloane. She’ll deny it until her last breath. So don’t waste your time.”

“Besides, she works too much. She doesn’t have time to date.”The brat exaggerates, and Raven has the nerve to laugh.

“Um… I’m right here,and I can hear you?”

“Oh, poor Sloaney,” Raven whines. “All work and no play makes for a dull and lonely day, don’t ya think, Liz?”

“OMG—Whatever.” I roll my eyes in irritation. “Once the festival is over, I won’t be as busy. I’ll make time for you, I promise.”

Suddenly, the place fills with cheers. Hoots and hollers are all that I hear in the deafening sound. When I glance to find out what’s happening on stage, I see Jax hopping off his stool and walking down the stairs. I can’t believe I hadn’t noticed his closing remarks.

He makes his way through the crowd to his parents first. He’s stopped several times along the way with fans talking to him, but eventually, he makes it to their table. It melts my heart as I watch both his mom and sister gush over him. I can’t hear what’s said, but from the way Jax nods, and his dad pats him on the arm, I can tell they’re happy for him. Eventually, they each hug him and say their goodbyes.

Then he turns and walks toward us. Again, he’s patient with his newfound fans and for the most part, they simply say a few words and let him keep moving. When he finally reaches our table, he asks, “Mind if I join you?”

“Not at all,” Lizzy gushes before I can say a word. “You were fantastic tonight. I can see what all the fuss is about.”

“Uh… thanks,” Jax says humbly as he looks between the three of us. When he gets to Raven, he immediately darts his eyes back to mine and widen for a fraction of a moment before he introduces himself. “I’m Jax, and you are?”

Shit. He’s only met Lanie. I quickly correct my mistake. “This is my younger sister Lizzy, and that’s Raven.”
