“Although,” he mused, “If there was a community page, I wouldn’t have to be the last person to know about your relationship status.”

I laughed again. “Jesus! I told you that I haven’t told anyone else. So, you’re not the last in my book. You’re the first.”

“Hmph,” he said, but I knew he was teasing.

“Warn me before you tell Kim,” I said. “I’m sure she’s going to be over the moon with excitement when she finds out.”

“She’s going to take credit,” he said. “It was her end goal when she had you over for dinner that night.”

“I know,” I said. “She’s not exactly subtle.”

He grinned. “She’s not, but you gotta love her anyway. She just wants the best for the world around her, and you’re part of that world.”

“She does have a heart of gold,” I agreed. “And bless her for it.”

“Amen,” Andrew agreed.

The conversation took a different turn, and I was fine with that. Even though he was a good friend of mine, I wasn’t too comfortable with involving anyone in my business, especially in my love life.

But I had to admit, I almost wished I had her cell number. We were going to be gone all afternoon, so I hated that I wouldn’t be able to speak to her until that night. It had been so easy before, but now that feelings were being added to the mix, I wanted to talk to her as often as I could, even when we weren’t together.

The note method of communication had been my go-to for as long as I could remember, and I saw little point in changing it.

But now I wondered if that had been a mistake.

I just wanted to talk to her.

Even if I had nothing to say.

Chapter Twenty-One

Krissy

I was over the moon as I all but skipped home.

While I’d been enjoying playing music on the weekends, I didn’t make much money doing it, outside of tips from patrons at the bars or hotels who listened to me play. It was more money than I made back in Nashville, but not enough to live on by any means.

With how much I had fallen in love with my new home, I was determined to make sure I had enough money to support myself, so I had to find a second job.

That morning, I’d gone to the same coffee shop I’d been frequenting lately, and after speaking with the owner of the place, I was hired on the spot. Since I performed at night, my availability was wide open.

I was only looking for part-time work anyway, so when I was offered the job, I felt on top of the world. It was a Godsend, really, and I was looking forward to starting next week.

I got home, certain my day couldn’t get any better when I realized I had a note on the floor.

Of course, I knew it was from Gavin before I even picked it up, but it still made my heart flutter when I saw his handwriting.

Krissy ~

Will you go to Key West with me this weekend?

~ Gavin

A smile spread across my face as I read the note several times over. There was something about it that reminded me so much of being asked to prom. It was so innocent, so sweet. There was something sheepish about it, and my heart swelled with affection for Gavin.

I could envision him writing the note for me, then walking over to my door to slide it under. I was sure he just hoped that I’d accept, and he was probably over at his place right now just waiting. Maybe he saw me coming home, and he hoped I’d see the note once I did.

Maybe he was watching for me to come over.
