“Good.” I felt like a goofy schoolboy, grinning at the phone, and I opened my mouth to say more when Claudia’s voice came through the intercom.

“Your next appointment is here.”

I pressed the button to respond. “Okay, send him in.” I released the button and turned my attention back to the phone. “I’m sorry, I have to go but I will see you at six.”

“I can’t wait.”

After my meeting, I realized that Aurora might not have clothes for a proper date in Milan and the last thing I wanted was for her to be worried about what she would wear in front of the paparazzi, so I called to have several clothing choices delivered to her apartment. I hadn’t heard from her since, but I confirmed with the store that they had been delivered, along with my note reminding her that as her employer, it is my discretion to supply her with her work uniform. Just because that happened to be designer clothes and dresses was irrelevant.

With the workday at an end, I felt as though I was walking on air as I left my office an hour early so that I could get ready for my date.

I showered and changed for our date, finding myself waiting outside of Aurora's apartment nearly half an hour early. I didn't want to rush her, so I decided to use that time to confirm our flight and reservations.

At five-till six I got out of the car just as the front door to Aurora’s apartment opened and she stepped outside.

"What are you doing out here? I was just about to come up to get you."

"I saw your car sitting out front. I thought maybe you were waiting for me to come down, so I did."

"A gentleman always picks up a lady at her door for a date." I kissed her cheeks and opened the car door for her.

"But this isn't a real date, so I didn't know what the rules were." She looked slightly embarrassed before sliding into her seat.

I leaned down through the open door and smiled. "The rules are that all dates are to be treated as real dates from now on. Okay?"

"Okay." She smiled, her expression brightening.

We were nearly to the helipad when Aurora finally spoke.

"Where are we going?"

"It's just up ahead." I held back my grin. She had no idea that we would be flying to Milan to pick out her ring from one of the top jewelry designers in the world before going to dinner at a Michelin star restaurant.

I pulled off of the main road, up a winding drive that led to the helipad where Matteo kept the family helicopter. I glanced over at Aurora to gauge her reaction and noted the confusion on her scrunched brow.

“Where are we going?”

“To the helipad,” I said as if it were no big deal even though I had a feeling that she was going to be excited for the trip which made me excited as well.

I glanced at her again to see her reaction. She blinked, her eyes widening as she turned to me and I turned my attention back to the road, fighting the tug at the corner of my lips.

“Why are we going to the helipad?”

“Because it’s faster than driving to Milan.”

“Milan? Tonight?”

“Sì.”

“Why?”

“Because it’s where all the best designers are, even jewelry designers.”

“The engagement ring?”

I nodded.

“We’re going to Milan to buy a ring?” Some of the confusion was replaced with amusement and if I wasn’t mistaken, even a bit of excitement.
