No.I wasn’t going to let him cheat me out of everything I’d put up with for the past month just to walk away with nothing. I wouldn’t let him win.

"Enzo," I cried out as he tore away my panties. I tried to wriggle away but he gave me no room to move.

“Say the word, Aurora. End the contract and I’ll stop.” He was almost taunting me. Like he wanted me to put an end to it all.

“No,” I spat the word before clenching my teeth in anger.

"Just a whore." He muttered the words like they were bitter in his mouth.

He thrust inside me and so help me, even though that wasn't how I wanted him, his hands groping my breasts, his cock invading my body, I was wet for him. I wanted him because deep down I knew it was about so much more than sex.

"Is this what you need? To cope with whatever pain is torturing you inside?" I gritted my teeth in anger at him for not confiding in me, at whoever or whatever had hurt him so deeply that it manifested in such darkness. He thrust into me again, but I didn't cry out. I thrust my hips back against him. Matching his pace. "If this is what you need, then take it. Take it until it makes you feel better. Until you see that it's okay to feel."

He let out a growl, gripping my hip with one hand and wrapping his hand around my throat with the other, not enough to cut off my airway but just enough for me to feel his power.

I cried out, my insides clenching around him as I gripped the railing. Even through our anger, Enzo managed to spark something inside me and soon, pleasure coiled inside, ready to explode.

Enzo's grip tightened, his pace becoming erratic, sending me over the edge. I cried out as my body convulsed and he let out a loud guttural roar that sounded more animal than man.

He collapsed against my back, both of us panting. My legs trembled as I leaned on the railing. I thought he might feel better after such an intense release, after getting rid of so much built-up emotion, but he didn’t.

Enzo pulled out of me without warning, and I hissed at the ache. He didn’t say a word, he just zipped his pants, and went inside, leaving me alone in the cold.

I cried myself to sleep that night. After going inside, I’d taken another shower to clean up and melt away some of the cold. I curled up under the covers and just let the tears come.

Chapter 18

Aurora

My alarm jolted me from a dreamless sleep, and I dragged myself from bed to the bathroom. I cringed at my haggard reflection. My hair was a mess from tossing and turning all night and dark circles framed my eyes.

I was supposed to be meeting with the girls from Enzo's mafia family and I’d only managed to get a couple of hours of sleep. I needed to make a good impression but showing up looking like I'd been crying wasn't going to do that.

I hopped in the shower even though I had just taken one the night before and gently washed away the salty tear stains from my face.

I wrapped a towel around myself and another in my hair. My eyes still look dark and puffy, so I headed into the kitchen.

I had a cup of strong black tea and a leftover pastry and used the tea bags on my eyes to try to help with the puffiness and dark bags, but I still had to use concealer to help hide my exhaustion.

I managed to avoid interacting with Enzo, but I wasn't sure if that was because of my own efforts or if he was also trying to avoid me. Either way, I had no desire to run into him before going off with the girls where I would have to pretend that everything was fine.

I dressed in a pair of black designer jeans, heels, and a flowy cream-colored halter blouse. I was glad that all the arrangements were discussed before the altercation with Enzo so that I didn't have to ask him anything.

I called down to the front desk and confirmed that Franco had arrived. I felt strange having him drive me, but Enzo insisted that it helped to sell our engagement. It was just part of the job.

We rode deep into the middle of the fashion district and my nerves took over as we passed high-end clothing stores that I had never even dreamed of shopping at before then. I hope the girls liked me. It was just a job, but I couldn't help but want them to like me. We were meeting at a local cafe for lunch before starting our shopping spree. That would give us time to talk and get to know each other. I just hoped that I didn't make any mistakes.

I walked into the cafe to find Mia sitting at a table with two elegantly dressed women I didn't recognize. One had a shorter, modern hairstyle while the other had longer flowing hair pulled half up. I took a deep breath and steeled my nerves before approaching the table.

“Aurora,” Mia exclaimed excitedly. “You're here.”

“Sorry if I'm late.”

“Oh, no. You're right on time I just wanted to get here first to make sure that you were able to spot us, and Mira and Vittoria decided to ride with me so here we are. Speaking of…this is Mira,” she pointed to the girl with her hair half up. She looked younger than Mia or the other woman but there was something sharp in her gaze. “And this is my cousin, Vittoria. She is a fashion designer, so she is going to lend her expertise for your engagement party.”

They each took turns with air kisses on each cheek and Vittoria smiled. “I would have been happy to make something custom for you, but we didn't have a whole lot of time. I figured that off the rack would have to do, but that doesn't mean that you can't take advantage of my fashion knowledge. Plus, if you find something that you like but want altered in some way, I should have plenty of time to do that before your party next week.”

“That's amazing. Thank you so much and it's a pleasure to meet both of you,” I said politely, and the girls grinned excitedly.
