"His eyes turn blood red, and his fangs descend. "This isn't over!"

"Go away and sober up."

I turn my back on him, searching to see if Tansia has come out of the restroom yet, but she's not visible and neither is Sierra. I inhale deeply making my way to the back of the bar, following the scent before a long drawn-out scream can be heard, carrying throughout the bar.

And if Sierra has gotten into the bathroom with Tansia, nothing good can be happening behind those walls.

Chapter

Twelve

The woman standing in my way from getting out of the club walks closer, her boobs jiggling, causing the bells she has hanging from her nipple piercings to tinkle as she moves menacing my way.

"Who are you, skank? I haven't seen you around, and now you’re everywhere," she drawls, tracing a blood red fingernail across the bottom of her lip.

“Tansia, no one to anyone. Just passing through.”

Her eyes flash red. "And what business do you have with Master Calebrea, human?"

If the bitch thinks she can intimidate me, she has another think coming. "I don't think his business is any of yours."

She transports across the room and into my face, her bright red lips outlining fangs that hang indecently over her lower lip.

"That's not what I asked you, bitch." Her fist comes fast, but not fast enough.

I lean slightly, avoiding the pain of her ire. I take a swing of my own, but blondie is more than long hair and boobs. She anticipates my move, grabbing my arm, and gets me in a hold as she tries to flip me to the ground.

But it will take a lot tougher person than her to toss me.

I keep the balance at my core and tilt out of the position, pinning her arm upward, tighter and tighter, almost causing her to surrender. But the growl that emanates from her throat causes my blood to go cold. She lifts her face, her eyes have turned solid red, and her fangs are fully distended as though her next meal will be me.

I scream, trying to roll out of it, kicking and punching to get away. The minute I'm loose, she stands tall, her eyes return to normal, and her fangs ascend behind her lip. "Stay away from Master Calabrea. If not, I'll show you how the vampires took care of their enemies in the old days," she says, spinning in her white string panties and four-inch heels to head out the door.

The dark shadow of Calebrea blocks her way, standing in front of her exit with bright red eyes and fangs of his own.

"Are you hurt, Tansia?" he asks, his eyes heating every inch of my body as though searching to ensure she hasn’t left a mark.

"I'm okay," I tell him, although my pride and the fear swirling in the pit of my stomach is anything but fine. He takes the vampiress by the arm and walks her to the wall, his face so close to hers that at first, I think he plans to give her a kiss. Whatever he says is so low that I can't make it out, but her eyes widen with fear, and her lower lip begins to tremble. "Get out," Calabrea says clear enough that I have no doubt about what he just said.

She gives me a fiery glare. “Fine, get the little bitch out of your system, and when you come to your senses, I’ll be waiting to give you what you really need.”

He comes to me as she leaves, running his hands down the length of my throat, over my shoulders, and down my arms. “You’re sure you’re okay?”

I nod.

His fangs are still slightly descended. I still can't get the sight of hers, that guttural growl, and the fear of it all to go away.I avert my eyes, unwilling to let him see the fear, and because words simply don’t come right away.

He doesn’t force a conversation, just holds me in the silence.

When some of the trembling has subsided, I suck in a deep breath. I was warned, and now I know. Fighting vampires is different than sparring with even the best of the best on a martial arts floor. “We should go. We have shifters to find," I tell him, trying to avoid those pitch-black eyes with red rims as I walk past him and out the door.

The blonde bitch from the bathroom is talking to the vampire who had her on a leash when we came into the bar. Whatever she says to him causes him to nod and head down the stairs in the back corner of the room.

Calabrea puts his arm around me and guides me from the bar. When we’re out on the pavement, he turns me toward him. “Your heart is beating too fast. I can take you back to the estate, get you settled in, and circle back. The shifters went out the back door while you were in the bathroom.”

I’ve given off a helpless damsel in distress vibe, and I’m far from that. Worse than that, I’ve managed to let the shifters get away. The very heart of our mission is we are to find Isala. “I’m sorry. I underestimated the power of those in the underworld and clearly overestimated mine.”

He doesn’t say anything, and it’s hard to know what he’s thinking at the moment. “Stay here. Take a seat on the bench. We’ll get a car and drive the rest of the way. I’ll be able to catch their scent in the air if you aren’t up to this.”
