“Are you in a relationship with my son or are you just sleeping with him?”

“Jesus, Mom!”

I was glad it was dark out and she couldn’t see my face. I wasn’t someone who blushed, yet I felt heat creep up my neck to my cheeks. “We’re actually in a relationship with Jordan. The three of us.” I wasn’t sure if she’d recognize his name if I called him JJ.

“Perry’s uncle, the mobster?”

“No, his son.”

“Oh, right. Peyton said he’s a decent guy.”

I quickly glared at Peyton. “He’s agreatguy. Nothing like his dad.”

“That’s good to know. It’s bad enough Perry’s related to him. I want all my boys safe. You’re part of that now since you’re with my Greer. Jordan too.”

“You can call him JJ. Everyone does.”

“JJ it is.”

“I’ll watch over them and they’ll watch over us.”

“Perfect, now, Pey, my flight arrives at ten forty-five Wednesday morning. I know you’ll be at work and Dominic is picking me up. But I expect you and Perry home for dinner on time, no sitting at work so Perry can throw shit around his office.”

“I know. Dom will get you, and we’ll leave on time if not earlier.”

“Dexen, I expect you and JJ there too.”

I smiled again. This bit of levity to the situation we could be possibly driving into was helping. “I’ll have to check with him but I’m sure he can make it. We’ll be there.”

“Good. Dinner at the fortress Wednesday night. No excuses.” I loved how she called it that like her sons did.

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Love you, Pey. Watch out for your brother.”

“I will, Mom. Love you too.”

“And, Dexen, I hope you find out who’s in your house and kick the shit out of them.”

“I hope so too.”

“Bye, Mom.” He ended the call. “I’m sorry about that. She means well.”

“She’s more laid-back than my parents.”

“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen your parents.”

“Probably the same with Greer. They’re on vacation for a while. They don’t like winter, so they travel. They’ll be here for the holidays though.”

“My mom hates the cold and the snow too. It’s why she lives in Florida.”

My phone rang through the speakers, the number of the security company showing up. I hit the button on the screen to answer it.

“Mr. Dremest,” a woman’s voice came through the line. “The police are at your home and have found no evidence of a break-in. They will wait for you to let them inside to check the home.”

“Thank you. I’m almost there.” I hung up. I loved how my house was away from the city but right now, it was too far, took too long to get there.

Greer pulled into my driveway, me right behind them. He and JJ were out of the SUV before I even turned mine off. Peyton and I walked over to the two policemen who were waiting for us. I gave them my phone and showed them the video of someone obviously in my home when I wasn’t here. Greer and Peyton wanted to go in ahead of the police, but I told them to stay back and let the police do their work. This wasn’t like what happened in JJ’s shop. This wasn’t something I needed the police out of. I didn’t have an issue with them, and the ones who patrolled out here weren’t on JJ’s dad’s payroll. Why would they be when all he cared about was East Dremest?
