I shake my head. “You need to learn the meaning of patience.”

She grunts and shoves me playfully on the shoulder.

Eva appears next, looking a little surprise that I’ve left my door open. “What’s going on?”

Camilla pouts. “She won’t tell us until Nat arrives. Where the hell is that girl?”

“Probably under the sheets with her bully.”

Camilla frowns. “I’ll still never understand how that happened.”

“I don’t think either of us will.” I glance at Eva. “Although, Eva saw it coming a mile off.”

Eva shrugs. “Fresh perspective, I guess.”

“Fresh perspective on what?” Nat asks from the doorway.

I swallow hard, as I know Nat hates it when we talk about her relationship with Elias. It’s clear that she’s embarrassed that she even gave Elias a chance after everything he’s done.

“Gone girl,” I lie, giving Eva a look. “She saw it only a few months ago and noticed things I never noticed, that’s all.”

Nat nods. “So, what’s this all about?”

“Close the door,” I instruct. “I have something I need to talk to you guys about.”

Eva sits on the sofa on the other side, while Nat closes the door. She goes to join Eva, all my closest friends, except Giorgia, staring at me expectantly.

“I’m running away after graduation.”

“Running away?” Camilla asks, frowning at me. “Why?”

I swallow hard. “I can’t stay in Mexico and be married off to someone. It will literally kill me.”

Nat straightens. “I always thought you loved this life. Life in the mafia.”

I nod. “I do, but what kind of life will I have once I’m sold to some tyrant who sees me as nothing more than a breeding machine?” I swallow hard. “Just like my mom.”

“We have more in common than I first thought,” Eva says.

Camilla clears her throat. “Well, none of us wants that life. We’ve all avoided marriages we didn’t want.” She gives me a pointed look, and I wonder if she knows about me and Archer after he turned up drunk at Gav’s cabin. After all, I know about those two, but I’ve not told her. I’ve been waiting for her to break the news.

“Except for Adrianna is going off alone. The lone wolf,” Nat says.

I wonder if that’s what they think of me. A loner. Someone who wants to be on their own.

“Are you going alone?” Camilla asks, and by the look on her face, she’s suggesting I might still be fucking Archer, even if she never brought it up.

I nod in response, as while Archer is helping me, I’m not leaving with him. He has a life to come back to. “Yeah.”

“Where are you going to go?”

I wince. “I can’t tell you. At least not until I’m settled.”

Nat frowns. “How am I going to send you an invitation to the wedding?”

“Just tell me where and what day and I will be there.”

“It’s happening August twentieth on the Isla Mujeres.”
