“He won’t ever hurt anyone again.”
“No. Fuck… Sparrow.” He pulled me to him with his good arm. “I love you. I’m gonna love you forever.”
“I love you too. Does this mean we’re not going away?”
“For our honeymoon.”
“Yeah. I like that idea. ‘Til death do us part—a long, long time from now.”
“Sounds perfect, baby.”
I glanced at the man who was just finishing the wrap on Hudson that would see him to the hospital. “How did you guys even know to come?”
“9-1-1 call. The guy said he dropped you guys off but realized all your outside motion lights were off. Said you never would have turned them off—especially after this morning.”
“Damn it, I’m gonna owe Jordie for the rest of our lives,” Hudson groaned.
“But we’ll have…as rest of our lives,” I croaked. “Is that so bad?”
“No. Not bad at all. I love you, baby.”
“I love you, too.”
“You’re a badass,” he murmured wearily.
“Who’da thought?” I pressed my lips to his cheek.
Really. Who would have thought?

Five Years Later
I cheered loudly while Hudson collected his award from the commerce department for his new advertising campaign for Ferrazzi Brewing, but I might have been drowned out by the two dozen other Ferrazzis around me.
Hudson ran back to us and I kissed him. “I’m so proud of you! Guess what?”
He’d worked so hard on the campaign, wanting to do something more than run the bar area of Ferrazzi Brewing. His dad had offered to let him use his advertising minor and Hudson had run with it.
“What?” he asked.
“You get to hang that award on the wall, but I have another addition to the house. One we’ve waited and waited a long time for.”
“You’re pregnant. Songbird. You’re pregnant.”
My smile widened. I’d had a hell of a time keeping this secret, but I wanted to add something special to tonight. “I’m pregnant.”
Hudson whooped, scooping me up into his arms—with his good as new arm thanks to a bunch of physical therapy.
“We’re pregnant!” he yelled to his family. “And we’re gonna go celebrate.”
“I love you, Hudson Ferrazzi.”
“I love you, too, Sparrow Ferrazzi, so unspeakably much. Forever.”
