She stuck out her bare feet and wiggled her toes. “I’m not really wearing the right shoes for a walk.”

“How about we go back to my room and sit on the deck. We can look at the stars.”

Remi nodded and stood. “All right. I have something to say as well.”

Curious, Colton led the way to his room while Remi carried her shoes. He unlocked his door, and they crossed the room to the patio door. Remi tossed her shoes on the desk as they walked out to the wooden patio.

The sound of the waves coming in played in the background as the cool night breeze washed over Colton’s skin. Remi walked to the railing and peered out into the night sky. “I love how the moon reflects off the water.”

“It’s peaceful here,” he said, standing beside her.

She clutched the railing. “I didn’t think I liked the beach, but I’ve changed my mind.”

“Really?”

“Yes. I’d come back here for a vacation anytime.”

“It’s a great location. The weather is nice all year round.”

They stood for a moment, enjoying the night sky lit with a thousand stars. Now was the time. Colton needed to say something, but his stomach clenched with worry. What if what he heard was just nonsense talk? What if he pushed Remi out of his life by admitting his feelings? It had only been a few days since they reconnected. What if she didn’t feel the same? He rubbed the back of his neck and tried to stall. “What was it you were going to tell me?”

“Oh, you first,” she said, turning to him.

Colton took in a deep breath and let it out. “All right.” He struggled with what to say. Maybe if he took it slowly it wouldn’t freak Remi out. “I’ve enjoyed our time together this week.”

“Me too.”

A streak of light shot across the sky and Remi grinned. “A shooting star. Cool.”

“You get to make a wish.”

“So do you.”

Colton stared into Remi’s blue eyes. His gaze traveled down to her lips. “I’ve made mine.”

“What is it?”

“I can’t tell you. Then it won’t come true.”

She huffed but didn’t break eye contact. “Then I’ve made mine too.”

He sat in silence for a moment, taking in her slight smirk. He really wanted to know her wish. “Okay, I take it back about it not coming true. I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.”

She blushed. “You first.”

He leaned closer to her. “You really want to know mine?”

She paused a moment, and the air turned electric between them. He was now inches from her lips. Maybe he didn’t have to tell her his feelings if he just showed her.

“Yes,” she said, moving even closer. He took it as a good sign.

He cupped her face with his hands, his fingers sliding into her silky hair. It was hard to breathe this close to her. His emotions swelled. “Can I kiss you?” he whispered.

She nodded, and his lips captured hers.

Their first kiss had been rushed and interrupted by the teen girls, so he took his time with this one. He pulled her to him as his lips slowly got to know hers. She was soft and warm and everything good all wrapped up in a perfect package. She kissed him back, her lips moving in sync with his. She smelled like coconuts and sandy beaches, and having her in his arms was making his heart do crazy things in his chest.

He poured all his emotions into the kiss, letting his passion show her he was serious about starting a relationship with her. He wanted this to last.
