walked through the door.

I stood and walked over to the desk to check them in.

“Before I forget,” Anjannette said once I was done. “Leo rented out Electric City Axe Throwing Saturday night. Would you and Simon want to come along?”

“He rented thewholeplace?”

She nodded and rolled her eyes.

“Hesaysit’s so we have an uninterrupted night out, but personally I think it’s because he’s never thrown an axe before and doesn’t want to embarrass himself.”

“I agree with your assessment,” I said. “I’ll check with Simon. His sister is coming home for the weekend and he mentioned possibly doing something with her.”

“Bring her along. After all, we have thewholeplace.”

Simon

My cell buzzedand I opened my eyes, disoriented. Grabbing the phone off the coffee table, I smiled when I saw Keera’s name on the caller ID.

“Hey.” I cleared my throat. “Hi.”

“I’m so sorry. Did I wake you up?” Keera asked.

“I just dozed off watching TV. No worries.”

“Sorry I’m so late. I thought I would have been home earlier, but a few of the ladies wanted some ideas for their recital dances and I lost track of time.”

I shifted to a sitting position and dragged my fingers through my hair.

“It’s not even ten o’clock, you have nothing to be sorry about. I’m actually glad I woke up because otherwise I’d be awake in the middle of the night,” I said. “How was your day?”

“Good. I ran some errands with Granny Vi in the morning then we went out for lunch. I woke up itching to dance, so I went to the studio early.”

“Did you enjoy yourself?

“I did. It felt so good to just move. Since I started working at the studio full time, all my effort has been put into teaching classes. It was nice to dance for myself.”

“I’ve never seen you dance.”

“Do you want to?”

“Hell yeah.”

“You’ll have to buy a ticket to the recital.”

I heard the smile in her voice.

“When is it?”

“The first Saturday in December.”

“I’ll be there.”

The fact that she’s talking about something more than a month away is a good sign that things between us have changed since last night. Before, we took it one day at a time. I’m thrilled that things are at a new level.

“Just a warning,” she said. “My schedule will be crazy next month when everyone really starts practicing.”

“Hopefully you’ll find time to fit me in.”
