She looked at Keera.
“Hold on to this one.”
“Granny Vi,” Keera sighed.
“I’m sorry. Hold on toSimon.” She hugged Keera from behind then straightened. “I’m going to finish packing and go to sleep. You kids can Netflix and chill or whatever it is you do. I won’t be back downstairs tonight.”
“Good night,” I said.
She winked then headed up the stairs.
Keera stood and I helped her clear the table.
“What was that about?” I asked as we tossed everything into the garbage.
“What?”
“Hold on to Simon.”
“I hate it when she refers to you as ‘this one.’ It just sounds bad.”
“I’m sure she doesn’t mean anything by it.” Keera looked at me and blinked. “What?”
“Nothing.” She wrapped her arms around my waist and rested her head against my chest. “But I think I’ll listen to Granny Vi and hold on to you.”
“That sounds good to me.” I kissed the top of her head. “Are we gonna Netflix and chill like she said?”
Keera straightened to look me in the eye.
“Isn’t she incorrigible?”
“She’s actually pretty awesome.”
“I think so too, even though she drives me crazy sometimes.” I followed her into the living room and we settled onto the couch. She picked up the remote and turned on the TV. “What do you feel like watching?”
“Anything is fine.”
“There’s anIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiamarathon on.”
“That’s perfect.”
She changed the channel, set down the remote, and settled against me.
“The next few weeks are going to be crazy.”
“If there’s anything I can do to make things easier for you, just let me know.”
“Do you want to take over some of the private lessons I have set up?”
“Sure. Just text me the moves.”
She chuckled at that and tightened her hold on my waist.
“But seriously, I appreciate it. You’re always so supportive.”
From conversations we’ve had in the past, I know Brian hated the fact that Keera loved pole so much. Knowing what I do about their relationship, I’m guessing it wasn’t the pole dance he objected to so much as the friends she found in that community.
We settled in to watch TV and just quietly enjoy each other’s company. I swear I could do this for the rest of my life and be a happy man.
