CHAPTER19

Keera

“I can’t believethis is here,” Anjannette said. “When we first started planning the beginner class, it seemed so far away.”

“Time flies when you’re having fun.”

“It also flies when you’re busy as hell.”

“I guess that means the next few weeks are going to fly. Between regular classes, this beginner series, and getting ready for the recital, we should probably just bring in mattresses and sleep here.”

“It’s going to be crazy for sure.”

I heard the front door open and voices out in the hallway.

“Sounds like some of our students are here. Do you want to greet or check in?”

“I’ll greet. It’ll help me burn some of my nervous energy.”

“Remember, it’s just another class.”

“It’s something new and you know I like to freak out over things I’ve never done before.”

Before I could respond, three women walked through the door.

I woke up the computer and opened the booking program. We have twenty students registered, which is the max we wanted in the class. Since we have ten poles, we’ll have two groups. As this is our first time doing this type of class, we don’t know what to expect as far as dropouts. I guess we’ll find out.

After checking in those first three women, there was a little gap, and then a bunch of people arrived at once and a small line formed.

“Hi,” I said to the next person. “What’s your name?”

“Sacha Mullins.”

I found her registration and read the comments.

“You signed up for two people. Did you find someone to come with you?”

“I did.”

“Great! I just need a name and are they here yet?”

“Yes, she is.”

She moved slightly to the side and the woman who’d been standing just behind her stepped forward.

“The name is Zoe Fields.”

I looked up and saw Simon’s ex standing right in front of me.

“Oh uh, hi Zoe.”

We’ve been in each other’s company enough that I couldn’t pretend to not know her.

“I thought that was you Keera,” she said. “It’s funny, when Sacha asked me if I wanted to do this, I mentioned you because I remember you took classes. I thought you went to a different studio though.”

“Yeah, I used to, but when Anjannette opened this studio I moved. Now I work here and I’m a partner.”

“Did you leave Wilder?”
