“Okay?”

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Keera turn her head to look at me. I glanced at her for a second before shifting my eyes back to the road.

“I was surprised when she told me the two of you still talk.”

This is the second time this has been brought up, first by Archer and now Keera, and I have no idea why it’s an issue.

“I haven’t talked to her for a few months.”

“But you did, and you got together for lunch.”

“She bought me lunch because I hooked up her new computer to the system I set up for her a few years ago.”

I turned into the parking lot and pulled into a spot. We’re meeting Keera’s friends at Poor Richard’s, and Andrew and Archer are coming, too. I was psyched about everyone meeting, but right now I’m not so sure. If Keera is really upset about Zoe, it could be a stressful night.

“Is that something you do often?”

“Set up her computer? No.”

She looked at me like I’m the biggest moron in the world.

“Get together with her. Talk to her.”

“No.”

“Then how did you end up fixing her computer?”

“She called and asked me.”

“And you just did it?”

“Why wouldn’t I?”

“Because you broke up.”

Once she said that, I realized the issue. I don’t know if Keera has ever had an amicable breakup. I’m not sure what happened with her and Jason, but I know it wasn’t good. And Brian cheated on her and it was a whole shitshow.

“We didn’t have a bad breakup.” I shifted to better face her. “Keera, trust me when I tell you that there’s nothing between Zoe and me. Our relationship was over years ago. That being said, we’re still on friendly terms. When she asked me how to hook up her new computer, I said I could do it. And that was at least a month before you and I started dating.”

She looked down at her lap and took in a deep breath then met my gaze again.

“When I saw Zoe in class, it threw me for a loop. But when she told me you hooked up her computer and had lunch, I went off the deep end imagining all kinds of things.”

“Stop imagining. I’m with you and it’s right where I want to be.”

“Thank you,” she said.

“For what?”

“Being sweet and not making me feel crazy even when I act like I am.”

“You’re very welcome.” I leaned in and gave her a quick kiss. “Come on, let’s go introduce our friends.”

We walked into Poor Richard’s and Andrew, Archer, Anjannette, and Leo were already there. They were even sitting at the same table.

“How did you know each other?” I asked when they told me there was no need for introductions.

“I recognized Leo,” Archer said.
