He shifted on the bench. ‘Yes. Or flung it in the bin.’

Laughing, she looked at him. ‘Thank you. Can you do up the clasp please?’ Turning her back towards him, she held the chain up around her neck.

‘There you go.’ After doing up the clasp, he placed his hands on her shoulders gently pulling her back towards him and kissing her on top of her head. ‘I love you.’

‘I love you too.’ Just as she was about to turn around to face him, a blue car made it way slowly down the cobbles before blowing a huge cloud of smoke from its exhaust. ‘Oh, that doesn’t sound good.’

‘No, it doesn’t. Let’s go and see if they need any help.’ Standing up, Gus held out his hand.

As they neared the car, Heather waved the smoke away from her face before crouching down and knocking on the window.

The woman inside wound down her window, immediately wafting the smoke away. ‘Is that me?’

‘I’m afraid so. Is everything okay?’

‘Yes, I think so.’ The woman grinned. ‘If this rust heap has got me to the right place before it’s decided to give up, then yes it is.’

‘Where is it you’re heading?’

The woman picked up a notebook from the passenger seat and riffled through it until finding the page she wanted. ‘The Cornish Bay Bakery in Penworth Bay.’

‘You’re at the right place then. This...’ Standing up, Heather watched as Elsie and Ian ran out of the bakery. ‘Is everything okay?’

‘Daisy thinks she’s gone into labour. She’s at the restaurant.’ Ian called over his shoulder.

‘Labour? Someone’s gone into labour? Now that’s something I might be able to help with, jump in.’

Heather looked from the woman to Gus and back again.

‘Don’t worry. That was nothing, she’s still got a few miles in her.’ The woman tapped the steering wheel.

‘Okay.’ Slipping into the back of the car, Heather budged along as Gus joined her. ‘I’m Heather and this is Gus by the way.’

‘Pleased to meet you, I’m Roxie.’
