“I didn’t mean to worry you, I…” I rest my hands on his and rattle the panicked thoughts free. “I have a lot on my mind, is all.”

“Tell me.” He releases my chin and takes my hands in his, bringing them to his chest. “What’s going on”

I will not cry.

I will not cry.

I will NOT cry.

“She likes you a lot.” I can’t bring myself to tell him the truth. That would mean revealing all of my feelings and I can’t bear the thought of him not feeling the same way.

But he said he likes me a lot.

But him liking me doesn’t guarantee a future.

His green eyes soften, and he almost looks hurt. “Is this about Leah? I already told you I don’t have feelings for her.”

I shrug. “I think it’s been a long day and I’m just being super emotional. Maybe its all the heat or maybe I’m about to start my period. I don’t know.”

Did I just mention my period?

Dear God. Did I just tell this man I’m just being super emotional?

Hellfire, Catalina, Hellfire.

“Do you want to go back to the room?” He asks. “We can order room service and watch a movie or something.”

I suck in a breath. “We can’t do that,” I wave my hand in the air, dismissing his suggestion. “It’s your brother’s rehearsal dinner -”

“Making sure you’re happy is what’s important right now.” He bows his head to meet my gaze. “Catalina, I don’t want you to feel like you have to stay for the luau. You’ve done more than I even expected on this trip. Say the word, and tonight will be just you and me.”

I search his eyes and see he’s being genuine. “You…You would really do that for me?”

He nods. “Absolutely.”

Why is he so perfect? Why has he not gone running for the hills or just risk swimming with sharks or something?

I shake my head. “If it’s alright with you, I’d like for us to go back to the luau.”

“Are you sure?”

“I would never let you miss this time with your family just because I had a moment of insanity.” I intertwine my fingers with Theo’s, comforted by the warmth of his hands. “Plus, there’s still the matter a tie breaker to deal with.”

Theo flashes his signature wicked smile. “If the lady insists.”

We head back down toward the beach, and I see Leah staring daggers at me while sipping a glass of wine. He must feel me tense up and squeezes my hand.

Theo leans in and whispers, “You have nothing to worry about.”

“If looks could kill…” I mumble.

“My money would be on you in a fight.” He wiggles his eyebrows.

“Always betting,” I chuckle.

“It makes life interesting.”

“There you are, Cate, darling.” Athena’s arms are extended, and she flies toward us. “When you disappeared, I thought you weren’t feeling well again and were going to miss out.”
