Relax, unwind, and hide out here at Alessandro’s. Lay low until my exes aren’t stalking me anymore.

But that thought stops me short, too. I can’t miss work and lose money just because my dickhead exes won’t leave me alone. That would only give them power over me that they no longer have. I would be slipping back into old habits, letting them rule my life in a way I swore would never happen again.

Nope. I won’t allow that to happen.

“I have to go to work today,” I tell him confidently.

He hums a response, his salt and pepper brows pulled tightly together. Obviously, he’s not thrilled about my decision, but he’s not going to argue with me.

“Okay, but you’re driving the Lexus to work. I’ll feel better if you leave yours in the garage,” he says finally. “At least for the next few days.”

I stare up at him in disbelief, and his hand stills on my arm, his fingers an inch away from my shoulder. This man has never seen me drive, and he’s going to trust me with a vehicle that’s worth five times what mine is.

“Are you sure you trust me driving your car?”

“It’s just a car,” he chuckles. “I’m more concerned about your safety, babydoll.”

My chest warms as his hold tightens around me. Swimming in the comfort of his dark gaze, I finally agree, knowing he’s right. Honestly, it’ll make me feel better to drive his car and leave mine somewhere out of sight.

None of them will be looking for a sleek gray Lexus, and I’ll park as close as possible to the restaurant so I can slip in and out without being seen.

It’ll be fine. Everything is going to be fine.

Alessandro responds by shoving me onto my back and rolling on top of me, his strong, hard body pressing me into the mattress.

“Another round before work,” I tease, bucking my hips up against him.

“Don't tempt me, babydoll,” he warns, kissing his way around my throat. “But tonight… you’re mine.”

I shudder as he bites down on my neck, his teeth grazing along my skin and sending tingles vibrating through my middle. “Promise?”

“Promise.” He chuckles. “And if you want, we can continue our conversation from breakfast… about things being more permanent.”

“Okay,” I say breathlessly, my head spinning.

I suppress the giddiness bubbling in my chest. The thought of talking about everything later, talking aboutuslater, gives me a high unlike anything I've ever felt. It's filled with possibility and hope, and even though my secret looms at the back of my mind like a feral beast, it might come as a softer blow if it's preceded by confessions of love.

Maybe a blowjob to butter him up.

Then, just maybe…

"Yes. I'd like that," I say, and when he leans down to kiss me again, butterflies explode in my stomach.

It's such a picture-perfect moment, a rare kind of happiness I want tattooed on my soul, and the potential promise of forever sends me into a spiral of blissful thoughts.

This could very well be my happy ever after, what I've been waiting so long for.

What I’ve dreamed about.

What I’ve needed.

"I have to get ready now,” Alessandro groans, sounding truly disappointed. “Or I’m going to be late, and Damon will yell at me.”

I laugh as he drags himself off the bed and to the closet.

“He’s not going to yell at you,” I giggle.

“Yeah, you’re right. Probably not wise on his part,” he says. “Navy or gray?” He holds up two, perfectly pressed button-up shirts for me to choose between.
