“What if they posed as a nurse or a doctor?”

“You can’t just get into the room because you’re dressed the part. But we’ll look into it. Either way, he’s a dead end now.”

“So what do we do?”

“Find another lead. That’s why I’m here. I need you to tell me everyone who knows anything about what you’re working on.”

“It’s a short list.”

“I know. That’s good. It will make it easier to run down any leads.” He pulled out a pad and held a pen ready.

“You won’t need to record it. It consists of me and Dr. Pallon.”

“That’s it?”

“Yeah. That’s why I told you no one should know about the work.”

“And you’re sure that Pallon wouldn’t have discussed it?”

“No, Dr. Pallon knows how important and confidential my work is. He’d never say anything.”

“You’re sure?”

“Yes. He’s a good man.”

“And no one else has worked with you at any time?”

“Not really.”

“That wasn’t a hard no.”

“We did have a lab assistant briefly. He was a student at the local university. That’s who Pallon thinks leaked to the press, but it couldn’t be him.”

“Why not?”

“He was only with us a very short time and he knew next to nothing about what we were doing beyond that it was cancer related. He was just a student.”

“You’re sure?”

“Positive. He told me all about his family and a girl he was dating. He was just a regular kid.”

“He couldn’t have overheard something? Or found paperwork?”

“Pallon said he found him snooping once, but I have always had my research locked up when I’m away from my office. He wouldn’t have been able to find anything.” Syd sighed. “But who knows? The article didn’t say much. Maybe he overheard us talking?”

“What’s his name?”

“Uh … Theo.”

“Last name?”

“Um … Theo … Theo … Robinson, I think it was.”

Aaron jotted the name down. “And where is he now?”

“I have no idea.”

“Would Dr. Pallon know?”
