“You’re saying you think he was murdered?”

“You don’t think so?”

“All I know is a brawl broke out. He got caught in the middle. Took a bad punch—boom—the end.”

“Got it. Thanks for your time.”

“Sorry I couldn’t help you more. There’s nothing else I can do?”

“It was a longshot anyway. The story of my life.”

“Oh, there was one thing though. I almost forgot.”

“Yeah?”

“I sort of put it out of my mind once he left the station. I thought he was talking crazy, and maybe he was. I’m sure it’s nothing.”

“What did he say?”

“I was the last to see him before he was transferred, and he said to me that, if anything happened to him—”

“Which it did.”

“Yeah, I guess. Coincidence maybe?”

“You see many coincidences in your line of work? I don’t.”

“Huh. Maybe there was something…anyway, he said that, if anything happened to him and someone came in wanting to speak with him, I should tell them ‘BPT Airlines.’”

“BPT?”

“Yeah. Mean anything to you?”

“Nothing.”

The detective shrugged. “Guess he was just a nut.”

“Thanks for trying.”

Will met Peter at the bottom of the steps outside the station. “Any luck?” Peter said, pushing off the railing.

“Not sure. Skipper’s dead, but he mentioned BPT Airlines to the detective.”

“What’s that?”

“No idea. But he told the detective that, if he died and someone came asking to speak with him, he should share that information.”

“Odd,” Peter said as he pulled out his phone and looked it up. “Says here it’s a domestic airline based in Venezuela.”

“Venezuela? Let me see.” Will took the phone and read the blurb in the search. “That’s where Antonio’s from. It’s where Charlotte busted his operation.”

“Venezuela, huh? Is your passport up to date? Because mine is.”

“That’s a long way for a thin lead.”

“You saying you don’t want to go?”
