Canaan refused to be the typical gamer who fell for someone he didn’t know. Queen_Luna was just a cool chick. She was a total tank in every quest they did together. She had instincts like nothing he had ever seen.

Before he could queue up the game, his phone rudely interrupted him. “Get that, will ya, Myrtle?” The phone continued to ring. “Fine, I’ll get it, but only because you don’t have opposable thumbs, and I feel bad for you.”

He didn’t even need to check the caller ID to know who it was. There was only one person in his life who still used phone calls.

“Hi, Wilder,” he said, using his sunniest voice. It would annoy Wilder to no end.

“Will you ever set foot in the BMA offices in the city?” Wilder asked in his usual terse tone. On other employees … and just your regular human … that rumbling and grunting worked wonders. It put the fear of Wilder in them.

Canaan wasn’t just any kind of guy, however. Not only was he a wolf shifter, just like Wilder, but Canaan was his brother. Sure, Wilder never let Canaan forget that he was the youngest wolf in the family, but that didn’t bother him half as much as it used to.

“Why would I make it all the way into the city? I have everything I need right here.” Canaan looked around his home office, which was basically half his home. There were a few computer monitors for his work, a couple more for his personal and super-secret project, and still a few more for gaming.

There was even a home gym in the back corner where a massive flat screen could entertain him when he did weights or yoga. A wolf needed balance, after all.

Canaan literally had everything he needed right there, and he didn’tneedto live in the city to oversee his department.

“You run the IT security department for all of Blood Moon Agency. It would be nice if your team had some time with you. Face to face.”

Canaan laughed. “Bro, we have meetings every day where my team definitely sees my face. It’s called awebcam, and every computer has one nowadays.”

Wilder sighed, and Canaan could imagine his older brother … and alpha … rubbing his temples in annoyance. “You know what I mean.”

“Sure, I do, but I run theinformation technologydepartment. I work with other people like me who prefer to interact on a screen. Get off my back, will you? I run a stellar department just the way it is.”

“I could make you go into the office.”

“Oh, you’re gonna pull rank on me, big brother?” Canaan chuckled. If Wilderdidpull rank, Canaan wouldn’t have a choice but to go into the city, but he would be bitter about it.

New York was too crowded and too dirty for his tastes. Other wolves in the Wolverton pack didn’t mind it all, but that just wasn’t for Canaan. He liked that he could go on a run out in the middle of the woods whenever he felt like it. His brother Ryland had to commute all the way from Manhattan every time he wanted to feel fresh, clean dirt under his paws.

No. Fucking. Thanks.

“I’m seriously considering twisting your arm,” Wilder grumbled.

“You run all of BMA from London,” Canaan pointed out. “You only come to this side of the pond once a year, if that. You run the whole company just fine.”

“I’ve got Axton as my COO in New York. You know that.”

Canaan laughed again. “My Axton is a computer screen. When my work suffers from not physically being in the city, we can talk about it.”

“You’re getting mouthy the more you grow.”

“Isn’t that always the way? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have an online meeting in a few minutes, and I don’t want to be late. Bye.” He ended the call before Wilder. His brother loved nothing more than hanging up right in the middle of a conversation. It was his way of asserting his dominance, or so Canaan believed.

Elated that he had won this round of sibling ribbing, Canaan quickly logged intoFantasy Warriorsand spotted Queen_Luna. She was waiting for him.

“I was gonna start without you,” her sweet, velvety voice filled his earphones, and he turned up the volume, every bit a nerdy gamer with a crush.

“You wouldn’t dare,” he laughed.

“Sure I would,” she returned as her gaming character pulled out her long sword. “It’s not like I need you to win this.”

“Aw, girl. You wound me. I do my best to keep up with you.”

“You sure try,” she teased before her warrior queen character started to run to their first stop on the night’s quest.

Canaan grinned to himself. When Queen_Luna was in this kind of mood, they usually played until the sun came up.
