“Bella is definitely a nickname, and she doesn’t have social media. I’m just about to do a deep dive while I wait for Mel to do her thing.”

“Talk to Elizabeth first. She is your priority, and no one else but you can fix this mate shifter thing. I’ll get Kyle to help out with the Bella thing.”

“Thanks, Rylee. You’re being very sentimental.”

“Bahaha,” she guffawed. “You’ve got no idea.”

Before he could ask her what she meant, Rylee hung up. Canaan stood, and after a few false starts, he made his way to Elizabeth’s bedroom.

NINETEEN

ELIZABETH

Elizabeth’s fingers hovered over her laptop’s keyboard, but she didn’t know what to do. Her head was a mess, running on very little sleep. After Canaan’s revelation, she hadn’t been able to close her eyes long enough to think of anything else.

Well, that and the kiss they exchanged.

She hadn’t left the bedroom for fear of running into Canaan. She still didn’t know how she felt about his revelations.

Canaan Wolverton, her Blood Wolf, wasactuallya wolf.

Maybe if she had known shifters were a real thing, she could’ve guessed it. Now that she knew, it was almost obvious. But how was she … a mere human … supposed to know some folks could change into animals whenever they felt like it?

That wasn’t even the most shocking of all.

Elizabeth was Canaan’s mate.

Meant to be.

Made for each other.

She was terrified. Not because she didn’t trust Canaan. Not because she didn’t understand what it meant.

Nope. Elizabeth was terrified becauseit made sense.

It explained why gaming with Canaan for the last few months had felt like coming alive again. It also explained why she trusted Canaan and felt safe with him. Comfortable. At peace.

Completely herself.

Elizabeth had half a mind to call Rylee and ask her a bunch of questions about shifters and their human mates. After all, her lawyer was sworn to attorney-client secrecy, wasn’t she?

As appealing as that was, it was also scary.

Canaan should be the one to answer her questions, however. Elizabeth simply didn’t knowhowto ask. It was all a little embarrassing. Would he think she wanted him?Duh.Of course, he’d think that.

Besides, it was true.

Shedidwant him.

A lot.

Every time she closed her eyes, there Canaan was. Laughing at his computer, cooking her a meal. Nude in the moonlight …

Elizabeth grunted in frustration and pushed her laptop away.

How could she want to be with Canaan so soon after her relationship with Jordan? She shook her head against the thought. She refused to compare the two men. They were complete opposites, and they treated her differently.

Most importantly, they made herfeeldifferently.
