“It’s your ass if you don’t,” Elizabeth pointed out.

“I’ll take my chances with my pack, thanks,” the man spat.

“You won’t get the chance. I’m not letting you out of my sight. You’re gonna be locked up for a long time, buddy. Not a chance will you be a free man in this century.” Canaan leaned down and growled. “You messed with the wrong wolf and his mate.”

Canaan hauled the man to his feet and pushed him toward the front porch. He tied his hands to one of the front pillars with a length of chain. They were busy tying up the others when the peaceful night sky was interrupted by a loud rumbling.

“That’s a chopper,” Canaan said, looking into the dark sky. He pointed toward the aircraft, and together, they watched as it landed on the long but narrow laneway. Rylee always did like to show off her parking skills. She jumped down from the helicopter, waving her hands frantically. “I have news.” She stopped when she spotted the nude and beaten men tied to the front porch. “Well, I think you have everything under control here.”

“What’s your news?” Canaan asked.

“Kyle found Bella,” Rylee explained. “You willneverguess who it is.”

Canaan shook his head. “And?”

“Does the name Mirabelle Howe mean anything to you?”

Canaan’s stomach dropped, and his face turned pale. “Mirabelle. She works for me.”

Rylee nodded. “She does. But she also works for …” She danced from one foot to the other. “Herfather.”

Canaan winced. “And who is her father?”

“Stanley Evans,” Elizabeth said with a gasp.

Rylee’s eyes went wide. “How did you know?”

“I didn’t. I just took a guess. Mr. Evans has a daughter, but she famously doesn’t work for him. I heard a rumor she preferred to work for her mother’s family.”

“Hell of a guess,” Rylee nodded proudly. “You’re right. It seems like Stanley Evans and his wife’s family’s mercenary company, Fosters Armed Solutions, joined forces to infiltrate every security, protection, and tech company in the tri-state area.”

“Why the fuck would they do that?”

“To expand their client base. It’s much easier to get clients if you have all the dirt on them,” Rylee answered. “They were amassing enough intel on all of BMA’s clients to cause threats and lead them away from us and straight to EELS and FAS. Shady way to increase your client base.”

“How?” Elizabeth asked. “How could they do that?”

“Well, Mirabelle is Bella,” Rylee answered. “Jordan’s elusive fiancée.”

“What?” Canaan and Elizabeth shouted together.

“Easy, don’t shoot the messenger.”

“I personally vetted all of my employees,” Canaan said. “It is impossible that I missed this.”

“Mirabelle Howe doesn’t actually exist, though. Her real name is Bellamy Evans. Sorry, baby bro, but your nerd cred is now in serious danger because you didn’t see it coming.”

“Not true,” Elizabeth cut in. “Remember?” she asked Canaan. “You said you found Mirabelle too cutthroat.”

Canaan’s nostrils flared. “If I had just listened to my instincts instead of being scared of the bullshit paranoid gamer nerd label, I would have put her on probation months ago. Now I have to tell Wilder there’s been a breach in our system.”

Rylee shook her head. “Fromtwoshifter companies that banded together. Not exactly something we ever considered would happen to BMA.”

“Two?” Elizabeth asked. “Who are the other shifters.”

“EELS. The Evans aren’t exactly great at hiding their identity. They’reactualeel shifters. They partnered with the FAS wolves. Clever. Get the land animals to do their dirty work.” Rylee shrugged. “These things happen in security businesses. Wilder will understand.”

“Like hell he will. I’ll be lucky to have a job after this.”
