However, the knowledge that if they started something that lasted longer, he would not be sleeping with other women as well resonated. It settled inside her with a much stronger positive vibe than she would have expected it to.

It was like that mattered. A lot. And really? It shouldn't matter at all.

Her plan was to get rid of her ex once and for all, but also to prove to herself that she could move on. That the bad choice she'd made at twenty didn't have to define the rest of her life.

"I expect the same," he said almost warningly.

She thought about that. She didn't desire anyone but him and couldn't imagine jumping from his bed to someone else's. "I'm not sure why we're discussing this."

"We are getting the expectations out of the way before anything happens between us."

"You mean sex."

"I mean sex."

She sighed. "This feels very calculated."

"Did the prenup you signed before marriage feel calculated?" he asked.

"No, but that was different. People in our world sign prenuptial agreements all the time."

"And people discuss expectations before going to bed together." His hand slid around to cup the back of her neck, his thumb rubbing up and down softly against her skin. "Stay with me today. We'll watch a movie, have dinner in and relax together. Whatever happens, happens."

That sounded way better than a calculated move to the bedroom. "You watch movies?" she asked, infusing her voice with humor laced skepticism.

"Sometimes."

"Not often, I bet."

"No, not often, but even self-made billionaires have to have down time."

"I thought your version of down time was doing business in your shirt sleeves. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but you were in here reading the business news while listening to the stock market reports." She looked toward the television that was still paused on the screen showing a graph for stock prices on a global tech company.

"Caught, but I'm happy to pivot to something entirely nonwork related."

"What kind of movies do you like?" she asked, really curious.

"Documentaries are my favorite, but I indulge in action adventure too."

"I love documentaries. Have you watched the latest on hummingbirds?"

"I haven't had the pleasure."

"Neither have I, but my coworker said it's amazing."

He leaned down and grabbed the remote. "See if you can find it. I'll organize some refreshments."

"I'd love something bright and fizzy, but no alcohol." Being around him was enough of a challenge to her equilibrium without adding wine or hard liquor to the mix.

CHAPTER 5

"Something bright and fizzy coming right up." He grabbed his phone and sent a text.

She did a search for the documentary she wanted to watch and found it on the first try. She clicked into it and then paused it, so they could get comfortable before starting the show.

"I wish I'd worn more practical clothing," she lamented. "I don't think femme fatale is really in my repertoire."

"You look amazing, but maybe not very comfortable."
