Rowan grabbed the last box from her small trunk. Most of the space was taken up by the large battery that powered her electric car.

She passed Klaus on her way inside. "I'll put your car in the nearest garage, bay two. Your keys will be on a hook by the door."

"Is that secure?" she asked before thinking better of it.

She was for all intents and purposes now living in a secured compound. No one was getting inside without an invitation and Lysander's guests weren't likely to steal a car that could be bought for what they paid in golfing fees yearly, if not monthly.

"It takes a fingerprint to open the door into the garage."

"Oh, then how will I open it?"

"Yours will be added to the biometric lock system."

"That's pretty high tech, isn't it?"

"Television may make it look easy to bypass biometric locks, but it's not, and this system in particular is one of the most secure."

"Notthemost secure?" she teased.

"Those can be unwieldy, and with our other measures would be overkill," Lysander answered, stopping next to her.

He took the box from her arms without comment, and she let it go. She'd never been averse to gentlemanly behavior, so long as it was not accompanied by an attitude of male superiority.

She arched her brows at him. "I didn't know you and your cohorts thought any security measure could be overkill."

"We're cohorts now?" Klaus asked. "Not goons?"

Rowan ignored him and kept her gaze pinned on Lysander.

He smiled that gorgeous smile that always made her heart flutter. "We do not need military grade tech to protect automobiles."

"Are you saying you have it elsewhere in the villa?" she asked.

"The panic room is second to none for security and ability to withstand efforts to gain entrance."

"Oh." She wondered if he was going to show it to her. She knew that the location of the panic room in her old home was secret to anyone outside the family.

Even the staff who had worked for the Andino the longest had not been told where it was. Rowan had always determined that if there was ever an occasion to use it, she would make sure to bring as many of the staff with her as she could.

Luckily, she'd never had to use it for any reason.

"All the staff and security team know it's location and the domestic staff knows to head there if the need arises."

Rowan cast a glance at Klaus's retreating figure. "And the security staff?"

"If the panic room becomes necessary, it would be because they had been neutralized already."

By neutralized he meant killed. Rowan shuddered. "Being a billionaire isn't without its drawbacks."

Her family home had not had a panic room as her father had never considered one necessary. That Lysander did only showed how aware of his own vulnerability to attack he was. She hated knowing his wealth and position of influence made him a target.

"If you do not want the world to know we are together, we can skip the gala," he said, clearly misinterpreting her look.

"It's not me I'm worried about. It's you. I noticed the increased security."

"It became necessary when you agreed to live here."

"But I'm nobody." Maybe not poor, but certainly not rich in comparison to this man.
