How long before he asked her to move back into her apartment? Or before she decided to go to save herself the grief of rejection?

Today, she was inserting herself into his day, if only for breakfast. Rowan found him on the balcony, looking at his phone. Of course.

There was a cup of coffee on the table, but no food.

"Good morning. Have you had breakfast?" she asked.

Lysander looked up from the small screen, satisfaction covering his handsome features. "We've got them."

"Who them?" Then she realized. "The people threatening you? They've been arrested?"

"Better." His dark gaze burned with purpose. "I dismantled the business. The men in power are now scrambling to keep their homes and cars as their company implodes. Newsflash: they won't."

"You're going to bankrupt them personally?" she asked. Wouldn't that make the men's hatred for him more personal too?

"It is already happening."

"But won't that make them want to kill you even more?"

"They won't have enough money to buy toys for their children's birthdays much less hire muscle to come after me."

"That's awful. Children should not suffer for their parents' bad judgment."

"You would prefer I left these men with the resources to remain a threat to me? To you?" The way he saidto youtold Rowan that she was one of the main reasons he was being so thorough in dismantling the business empire and the lives of the men who ran it.

Which meant what? Hewasn'tbored with her? She cautioned herself not to read too much into it. Apparently, he'd been protective of her before they'd ever shared a bed.

"No," she denied quickly. The thought of something happening to Lysander made her sick. "But can't you make sure their children don't end up on the streets?"

Even as she asked the question, she realized how foolish she sounded.

Lysander didn't look at her with judgment or pity for her naivete though. His gaze burned, but no longer with the zeal of revenge. Something else entirely smoldered in those brown orbs now. Something she was afraid to name.

"Come here," he said.

With zero instinct to protest, Rowan obeyed and as soon as she reached him, Lysander pulled her into his lap. Cupping her face, he kissed her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back.

Things were heating up nicely when he broke the kiss. She made a sound of protest.

But he pulled back until their gazes met. "You are something special."

"I don't think so."

"I know so." He kissed her forehead and then her lips again, but chastely this time. "For you, glikia mou, I will arrange something for the wives and children."

It took several seconds for Rowan's scattered senses to understand what he was referring to. Protecting the children.

Worry that doing so would leave him vulnerable instantly filled her heart. "It will have to be resources those men can't leverage. They can't be left with any way to hurt you."

"Do not worry. When I take an enemy down, they stay down."

She shivered, but it wasn't with fear. It was with arousal. His power and confidence were a total turn on for her.

"You like that."

She shrugged. "Maybe. A little. You're like a tycoon superhero."

The kiss he gave her sent all of Rowan's concerns for the future into the ether, right along with her ability to string two thoughts together.
