Finally, she decided to send the text.

Rowan:Tell your pilot no risky flying. I'll miss you. Be safe.

Lysander:I will miss you too.

Rowan didn't know what possessed her to send him three heart emojis. She wished she hadn't as soon as she'd pressed send. How obvious was she?

Her phone rang.

It was Lysander.

She answered. "Hello."

"I apologize for undervaluing your commitments."

Air whooshed out of her and it took her a moment to respond. "Thank you."

"You are important to me. Therefore, so are the things that are important to you."

"You're important to me too." Why were her eyes stinging?

"Sometimes we will have to be apart, but I will make a more concentrated effort to spend time together when we are both in Athens."

Rowan was too choked to say anything.

"Losing lucrative deals because of the time I spend with you is not going to sink my company."

Her laughter was watery. "Is that what happened?"

"My focus on business has not been what it was before we got together."

"I'm sorry."

"I am not."

"Oh. Well, then I’m glad." Did that mean he was coming to love her too?

Or was he resigned to being a less efficient corporate shark for the time they were together because he knew it wasn't going to last?

"I have to go."

"Okay."

"Do not forget to eat your breakfast. I reminded Helen to prepare you something."

"She did."

"Good."

"I…"

He waited in silence, but Rowan couldn't say anymore. She wanted to say those three little words that meant so much. Only she knew she couldn't. It wouldn't be fair to Lysander to burden him with her love when she'd agreed to a no strings affair.

That included bindings of the heart.

"I have to go too," she finally said. "Or I'll be late to work."

"Do not work too hard," he replied.
