"You either." Though she doubted that admonition would be listened to.

They said goodbye and he disconnected the call, but he texted her later that afternoon to let her know when his plane was taking off.

Longing to be with him filled her. Had she been foolish to refuse to go with him? Their relationship had an end date. Why hadn't she jumped at the chance to spend every minute with him that she could?

Because for however long this thing between them lasted, she wanted it to be real. More than sex. More than his convenience. For however long they had together, they would be in a relationship.

A relationship in which they were equal partners.

It wasn't just about pride. It was about value. Her heart would shatter when they broke up, but she wasn't going to let him stomp all over it while they were still together.

Lysander would never play the role her family or her ex-husband had in her life. He would not dictate her schedule or her behavior.

Yes, she would compromise for him because he was worth it.

No, she wouldn't subsume herself to him, becauseshewas worth it.

When her coworkers invited her for a drink after work again, she refused. As much as she did not look forward to going home knowing Lysander would not be there, she was not in the mood to socialize either.

She ate dinner by herself in the den, sitting on the sofa where Lysander usually sat and let the news play in the background as she read a book. Tired from the night before, she went to bed early, but found it impossible to go to sleep.

Until she pulled one of Lysander's dress shirts out of the laundry and put it on. Hugging his pillow and surrounded by his scent, she finally fell asleep.

Her phone woke her.

She fumbled for it and when she saw the unknown number, she considered not answering. What if it was Lysander? He should still be on his jet ten thousand feet in the air though.

Still, something told her to answer. So, she did.

"Hello."

"Yineka mou, did I wake you?"

"Sander. It is you. I thought it was, but I didn't recognize the number."

"Satellite phone on the jet."

"Oh."

"I wanted to wish you goodnight."

"Shouldn't you be sleeping? Tokyo is six hours ahead of Athens." She'd looked it up.

"Did you have a good day?" he asked, rather than answer.

Typical Lysander. He probably thought he didn't need sleep like other mere mortals. Arrogant, exasperating…amazingman.

"Yes. I found two big sponsors for the gala and talked to a couple interested in opening a branch of the organization in Thessaloniki."

"That is good news. What you do is important."

"Thank you for saying that." She put the phone on speaker so she could get more comfortable. "Tell me about what you're hoping to do in Japan."

"It is not a hope. It is a plan."

"Of course it is. And what is this plan?"

"I told Cyrus and my father that they would lose the deal they had going with the Japanese conglomerate. I worked on it while on the cruise, but I need to go to Tokyo to finalize the details."
