He’d been invited into the family.

Not shoved away.

“As for your sex life, I’m going to bet that you’re spending all of your time pretending to be someone you’re not. I’m going to guess that in bed, you’re topping Tommy. You’re the boss in bed, and it’s not working.”

“He’s a bottom. It works.”

Ethan ran his fingers up and down his leg.

“My dearest, and oldest friend, you lie like a rug, and not well.”

Gene sipped his coffee as he continually watched everything around him.

Why?

To protect Ethan.

Old habits die hard.

“You’re a bottom. You’ve always been a bottom. I’m sure with Preston, you were too. With Tommy, you’re having to babysit him in life, and in bed. That doesn’t work for you. The reason we did so well was we switched roles at home. You had a break. You got to stop worrying and put your trust in your partner. You need a top. A strong, dominant top that’s going to tie you up and make you forget.”

He glanced over.

“I hate that you know me so well.”

“And I hate that you’ve fallen in love with someone as a rebound and it’s not going to work. I wish I could have protected you from that. I’ve said nothing out of respect, but when I had to rationalize my relationship with you to a man when I’m happily married…”

A tear dripped down Gene’s cheek.

He wasn’t wrong.

Immediately, Ethan wiped it away because he didn’t want this man to suffer.

Then, he took his arm, rolled up his sleeve, and then did the same to his own arm. He placed their arms side by side. His left, and Gene’s right.

The man looked down.

On his arm, and Ethan’s were the two matching symbols. Neither one of them had ever covered or altered them even after they went their separate ways.

That said it all.

They were still bound together.

“We’re a set,” he admitted. “We will always be connected.”

Gene ran his fingers over Ethan’s arm.

“I love you,” he admitted.

“I love you too. That’s why I have to be honest with you. You aren’t happy, Gene. You tell yourself you are because Tommy makes you forget about Preston. Only, you need a man who makes you forget about me.”

And there it was.

“Preston made me forget while I had him.”

Ethan was glad.

He was happy that Gene had found that love.
