“That’s Rogue’s and Jinx’s thing. I just stare at gorgeous redheads from a roof. Apparently, I’m a pervert.”

She grinned.

“No complaints here. I mean, you could just join her.”

Oh, he was sure he could, but he didn’t want to hurt her.

Ever.

Remington knew that if he took that step, he’d make her insane. He’d hover, be super protective, and overcompensate for what happened to Karen and Kelsy.

He’d be all over her all of the time.

Not every woman liked a caveman.

From the safe, she pulled out a big, thick book, and flipped to a certain page. Once there, she scribbled something down on a piece of paper.

“This just came in last night. One of the working girls had a little party to attend, and they were talking about it. She came to me and got paid well.”

He was interested.

In a lot of things.

Mostly, what she was wearing under that pretty button-down dress.

Sue him.

The floodgate of need was cracking, and he wasn’t able to hold back much longer. He’d have to find a way to avoid coming here soon.

Calyx explained.

“Artemis paid them to grab the lawyer and commissioner. I don’t know what she was after, but it had to be important. Word on the street is they got a million per abduction, and there’s likely going to be more. The men are still in town. They might lay low because Elizabeth Blackhawk is here…”

She paused.

“What?” he asked.

“Is she anything like what they say she’s like? I mean, the woman. She looks so sweet and kind.”

He laughed.

And laughed.

And laughed.

“Oh, Calyx, that’s deceiving. There’s not a bunch of mercenaries going under because she’s sweet. Trust me on that. Elizabeth is not someone you want to get on your bad side. She’ll end that fast.”

That was good to know.

She came around the desk and handed him the paper. He was keeping his distance.

Taking it, he folded it up.

“We’ll start there,” he said, meaning the names. When he went to give her money, she declined it.

“That’s not the payment I want.”

His heart thumped.
