“Thanks, Red.”

“Just don’t do anything there that gets your face on the news other than faux working that case. We are barely staying under Gabe’s radar, and since Livy’s death, we’re his favorite target. Well, I am. I’m sick of kissing ass and being nice to him.”

Yeah, she was aware.

“See you later, Red. I’ll keep your husband alive. You’re welcome.”

Before she could say anything, Elizabeth hung up.

Heading back over to Tommy, she saw the homicide captain heading their way.

It appeared their talk was going to have to wait.

For now.

“Thank you for waiting for me,” he said, shaking her hand, and then Tommy’s. “I’m Captain John Flannery.”

He focused on Tommy.

“You look familiar,” he said.

Oh, well, there was no shock he was bringing it up.

“I held your job before you had it,” he said. “I was the homicide captain here.”

Elizabeth knew this was where she did the tap dance because she couldn’t wait for Axelle to come up with something.

“Really? What happened to you?” he asked.

Because he was a cop.

And cops were curious.

“Thomas here, left the job to work undercover with the FBI. He’s been under, infiltrating The Hunter mercenaries. I’ve just come to relieve him and get him back into society.”

Lordy, but the bullshit was slinging.

The man’s eyes went huge.

“Really?” he asked.

She nodded.

“I’m sure you’ve heard many stories about The Hunters and the mercenaries running amuck here.”

Oh, he had.

“We heard you went dark side,” he said, escorting them back to his office.

Tommy wasn’t sure what was going on, but this could be a test to see if he could hold his own.

“No. Never. I’m a cop. I don’t like people who break the law.”

Elizabeth was glad the man could figure out what she was trying to do.

Slowly, she was erasing his time as a Hunter. The only reason she was able to pull this off was because everyone knew she was full-on FBI.

She was their poster child.
