Oh, boy.

“It’s getting ugly?”

She nodded again.

Because Ethan once had clearance as high as hers, she was honest. She also trusted him. As the once Deputy Director of the FBI, and Director, he knew what she was living.

Thankfully, Axelle was back, and she could hold down that part of the fort while Callen was dealing with The Violent Crimes Unit.

God.

She was juggling some sharp knives too. Someone was bound to get cut.

Her.

Elizabeth explained to her husband.

“Yeah, Artemis is fucking around and going to find out. I don’t know what her problem is, but I have to help. If I leave this up to The Hunters, they are underprepared to deal with her. She’s a nightmare.”

Both men laughed.

Oh, and for different reasons.

Ethan knew that Artemis was no match for his wife. She got mean when you hurt the people she loved, and this woman was doing just that.

As for Reaper…

“If memory serves me right, you shot her in the chest thinking she wasn’t in body armor,” Lewis said. “She hates your guts.”

She snorted.

“In my defense, most people do end up hating my guts,” she admitted. “I’m an acquired taste and don’t really give a rat’s ass if she likes me or not. I prefer the latter to be honest.”

Yeah, they both understood what she was saying, but Elizabeth was leaving out a big piece of that.

She was, genuinely, a good person.

To know her was to know that.

Reaper was curious.

“Will you be safe there?” he asked.

Elizabeth wouldn’t be going alone. She had security, and her Marines got equally as mean when someone poked her.

“I will be.”

Her husband was honest.

“You need to stop her bullshit in its tracks,” Ethan admitted, standing there. “She’ll test your boundaries, and she thinks you’ll cave.”

Oh, well, she was wrong there.

Elizabeth had been waiting a long time to put that cuntasaurus in her place.

So.

Very.
