Long.

“I can handle her. I’m not playing games with her. If Artemis had her mercenaries grab four people, I’ve got to stop that. I just don’t know why. I’ll find out at some point and when I do, I’m going to be mean.”

Ethan was honest.

“This is going to be a showdown.”

Ehhh, when wasn’t it?

Honestly, Elizabeth figured as much, but it was tricky now. She wasn’t just a Fed. She was one of the top Feds and she had to do just about everything on the DL.

She drew attention.

If she was going to go MIA for a few days, she needed to clue in her partner in this.

Axelle.

“I need to let my boss know what’s going down,” she said, pulling out her phone. “She’s going to need to hear about what that nutbag is doing.”

Elizabeth texted Axelle, and it wasn’t long before she came out with her husband right behind her.

Duke stayed back holding their newborn infant. Only, Elizabeth knew why he was watching.

Someone had to have told her husband about what went down between herself and the man beside Elizabeth.

Good times.

As Axelle came close, she laughed.

“Oh, well, look who it is. Long time no see, Lewis. Talk about a walk down Sexy Fun Lane so many moons ago.”

Lewis stood and opened his arms. She went into them, and they embraced.

“Red Queen, still as hot as ever,” he said, laughing the whole time. “You and LaRue did some witchcraft. Neither of you has aged.”

She patted him on the back.

“Liar.”

She took his face in her hands and gave him a kiss.

“It’s good to see you, Soldier.”

Likewise.

“Congrats on the wedding and the baby,” Lewis said. “Most of the CIA was swallowed into a black hole when you got married and spawned. I won’t hold it against you for not having me at your wedding. The big guy over there looks like he wants to eat my liver. Speaking of spawning, tell me that the rumors are false and there is not another LaRue.”

She snorted.

Elizabeth laughed.

“Hey, blame Charlie for having a kid with someone else. I can’t help he made me a brother who then married Axelle.”

He winked at Elizabeth.

Axelle got serious.

“Why are we interrupting Sunday dinner outside under a tree with Reaper?” she asked. “I know this guy doesn’t creep into town unless there’s an issue.”
