A deadly one.

Someone had a death wish, clearly.

“Oh, no,” Stella said. “He’s a dead man walking. Hasn’t he learned that this is NOT the place to be a cop?” she asked, pointing at Boone who lifted his eyepatch to show his scar and missing eye.

Well, she was aware of that, and she’d made it known multiple times.

Only, someone had a big ol’ boner when it came to proving he was badass.

In her world, if you had to make a production to prove you were badass, you weren’t badass.

Badassery was a state of mind you either had or didn’t.

On the way back there, she told him that there was still time to get out of this, but he refused.

The bottom line now was that Axelle would be in her glory by getting that juicy offer of having someone undercover for them.

She would haul ass and get him settled ASAP in the precinct just to lock that little morsel down.

There was little time to go back.

“Yeah, so I told him. Only, he’s convinced that Gene is after my man because he saw him kissing him on a street corner.”

All the women looked around but wouldn’t look at her. That made her curious as to what they weren’t saying.

“What?” Elizabeth asked.

“Your man was kissing another person, and you’re okay with it?” Merry asked. “Is Gene dead? Did you bury the body?”

She wasn’t sure why everyone wanted her to be upset and worried. Like Chris had told her, Ethan wouldn’t cheat.

She knew it to her soul.

Elizabeth trusted both men and honestly, she got it. Sometimes, you needed to be comforted.

Ethan was Gene’s security blanket—of sorts.

Until this was sorted out, or Gene moved on, he would need Ethan to keep him going. When Preston had been murdered, the two men talked nightly.

Ethan came and visited to hold him up.

It was not that shocking that they were bonded in ways she didn’t understand. They were a unit before her, and she wasn’t threatened.

Not.

At.

All.

“Guys, Ethan can kiss Gene. I kiss people too.”

Jagger laughed.

“Oh, you’re an odd duck, Elizabeth. In fact, every person in your relationship is the aberration, not the norm. Men don’t share. That you have three that do...”

She blinked.

“Are you guys analyzing my sex life? I’m in bed with three incredibly hot men. Who doesn’t want that?”
