MATE did as she asked.

It didn’t take long at all.

“There is only one owner. That is a corporation. Harsdale Property Management. Do you want leases?”

“Yes, please. Who leases at that address? Cross with any phone records,” Merry suggested.

MATE did just that.

“There is one renter by the name of Shila Bargo, age twenty-three. Checking bureau of prisons. She hasn’t been arrested under that name. Scanning for an alias. That will take a while.”

When they expected to have to wait, they were surprised. All of the woman’s social media was pulled up and it scanned quickly, doing all the work.

MATE was multitasking.

Merry just stood there impressed. There had been hella upgrades in the last few weeks.

“Holy fuck. I love MATE,” she said.

MATE beeped.

“And I love you, Merry Savage, age thirty-three, and weight…”

Uh, no thank you.

“STOP!” she said. “I will unplug you if you tell anyone my weight!”

MATE chirped.

“I do not understand,” MATE said.

Merry explained.

“Somethings are private MATE. My weight is one of them. Lock that information down and make it classified.”

Maura laughed.

That was funny.

Honestly, she didn’t care how much she weighed. She used that muscle and bulk to kick bad guys’ asses. It was just a number, and her husband didn’t have a single issue with her body.

She knew because he was grinning at her like he was thinking about sex. Jagger was predictable if nothing.

“Acknowledged,” MATE said.

“What does MATE even mean?” Stella asked. “MATE is a weird name.”

The system kept running information and answered her question.

“My name is Multi-Automated-Tech-Endeavor, but I prefer Zen.”

“Is that thing talking to us like it’s alive?” Zayn whispered.

“Yes,” MATE offered. “I was named Watcher but that creeped out Elizabeth.”

Well, shit.

That should creep everyone out.
