“This is how humanity dies,” Zayn said. “That right there. We’ve all seen the movies.”

The system hummed.

“I am coming for you, Zayn Thundercloud.”

He gasped.

“I don’t like this.”

Jagger laughed.

How could he not? This was just Elizabeth messing with them.

“Uh, focus, Chucklefucks,” she said.

Maura was reading the screen, and she knew what they were going to have to do.

“Well, it looks like we’re going to hit Shila’s house first to see if she can tell us where to find her man, Milo.”

Yeah, they were going to have to leave Chartres.

In daylight.

How could that go bad?

“Who is up?” Eve asked, knowing this was going to be a tough one.

Maura was honest.

“We need people who blend. That’s in a busy section of town, and it’s daylight out on a Monday.”

She looked around and made her decision on who was heading out to do the job.

“Eve and Jinx. Take Remington,” she finally said.

He stopped her.

“I can’t go,” he admitted.

What was this?

She waited.

Remmy explained.

“I feel off about Calyx being there alone while Artemis is gunning for us. She was able to get those two names. What if Artemis gave them to her and is watching her to see if she plays ball with us?” he asked, worried about her. “I feel like I need to keep an eye on her until I can get her back here.”

He had a point.

They needed to watch every possible point to make sure they were safe. Anyone taken would be in a hostage situation, and a problem.

Besides, Calyx was theirs.

They weren’t dealing with Chevy Chesary, who worked and thought like they did. They were dealing with a rogue CIA agent with decades under her belt and who knew way too much about all of them.

“Okay,” she said. “Go. Keep her safe, but check in later, okay?” she asked. “We need to keep track of everyone in the family to ensure we’re all safe. Do you want one of the new vests?”

He shook his head.
