Chapter Eleven

Upstairs

First Stop

Anger, Party Of One

E lizabeth was grateful that The Hunters had some intel, and they could start dealing with the mess here in NOLA. As for her, well, she had to take care of her own business. One was an ex-cop who had no common sense, and one was an ex-Marine who was broken.

Oh, she knew which she’d rather deal with any damn day of the week.

The broken man.

Not the angry one.

Only, this was her circus, and Tommy was, still, one of her clowns.

Until Axelle placed him, and he was no longer at Chartres, she had to mitigate the mess he made.

They didn’t need more.

When she found Tommy’s room, the one he and Gene had been staying in while there, she knocked on the door.

This was a well-visit of sorts.

She needed to gauge his mood and make sure that the man wasn’t a danger to the operation there.

That was the last thing they needed.

He knew EVERYTHING about them, and she’d have to pull the trigger on this situation if push came to shove.

The Hunters were a top-secret group funded by the FBI, and that was her problem.

If they went down, NOLA went down.

If he didn’t get killed in the process of making this horrible choice, she’d be shocked.

Yeah, she knew that he was making a huge-ass mistake by selling his soul to the FBI to be a police informant.

How did she know?

Been there and done that.

The FBI would use until it could use no more, and once in, there was no way out.

Ever.

God knew that so many tried.

Elizabeth had fallen into that trap a long time ago, and look where it got her.

She was playing games in NOLA, while her kids were at home without her, and two of her husbands were holding down her job.

She hated it, but what was a girl to do?

In for a penny.

In for the whole goddamn pound.
