He squeezed her hand.

“You are. You’re saving people with every choice you make, and we appreciate it.”

She patted his cheek.

“Mr. O’Banion, likewise.”

Yeah, they were two peas in the pod.

“I’ll go talk to him,” Jagger offered. “I’ll make sure he eats that sandwich, and tell him what’s going to happen.”

It was for the best.

If Artemis sent assholes here, Gamble wouldn’t fight. He’d die on purpose.

“Thank you,” she said. “I have to go check on your team, and then find out if Gene is okay. You guys are going to have to do what you do best.”

She passed the baton.

“We will.”

“Keep me updated on everything,” she said, meaning Gamble.

“Copy, Boss.”

She headed away, letting Jagger go back into the room to deal with Gamble.

When she reached the suitcase she’d placed by the table, she saw a note in an envelope.

Oh, boy.

Apparently, Tommy did want to say goodbye to the man he’d planned on running from.

A part of her didn’t want to give it to Gene to protect him, but that wasn’t something she could do.

Instead, she tucked it away and headed down the stairs to the living room where everyone was working.

Once there, she could see that MATE was running data as the team was watching on the big screen.

Oh, not intel.

No.

Their people.

There were two trackers activated.

Eve and Jinx were MIA, so she knew who Maura had sent out to do the deed.

She moved to stand next to the woman running this part of the show.

“We’re moving on an apartment,” she said.

“Good. We need to get our asses moving on this.”

On that, Maura agreed.

“How’s Gamble?” Maura asked, concerned for the man upstairs. When Jagger didn’t come back, she was assuming it was bad.
